The clustering tests run against node0 and node1, so the natural thing to do is to get the rest of the testsuite to run against ${node0} As for #1, 4 things are required: a. The start-jboss* macros should to default to ${node0} instead of localhost. b. JUnit tests should use JBossTestCase/JBossTestServices API to find URLs instead of hard coding them, just like the clustering tests do now. c. Serverside test deployments should use jboss.bind.addr d. src/resources/** should be filtered with a token like @NODE_0@. 3. This will only allow you to run targets like one-test or tests-standard-unit which don't start jboss servers. The entire "tests" target could not be run against a remote box? If you get a Cannot Connect To VM Error, I followed advice on this forum and renamed my JBOSS directory to EXCLUDE (remove) a space in the name and it worked!!! if that doesnt work you may also need to copy dt_socket.dll and dt_shellmem.dll from you java JRE/lib folder to windows/system32 folder see http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=160025&start=0&tstart=60 and http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=577610&messageID=3025506. Beware of playing around with DLLs though! Try this hope it helps... I notice you didn't try to support | <map> | <key>xxx</key><value>yyy</value> | <key>zzz</key><value>qqq</value> | </map> | What are the rules for referencing types across namespaces and "parameterizing them"? i.e. Is there a way for me to say I accept any of those map types and but the implementation of the map/key/value should be of a specific class or another element type? e.g. I want would like to use any of your rules/bindings from the map namespace but override the map type to AbstractMapMetaData and the key/value to one of my ValueMetaData types. I'm new to portal technology and am looking at feasibility comments. Using JBoss 4.0.2 and JBoss Portal 2.0. Have written a portlet that is simply displaying a text message via doView() call (a "Hello World", essentially). Is it possible to access a remote web site and load it into a portlet window, allowing interaction with the remote client as if the portlet were a web browser? If so, any suggestions on where to look for references? Thanks View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3881439#3881439 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3881439 |

Hi, The standard provides you with a 'portlet global'session. If your store or retrieve something to/from the session, you can use something like: portletSession.setAttribute("myKey", "myValue"); This is the default, and prefered way, because it stores your key/value on the portlet session using portlet scope and hides it for other portlets. But you can also set it using: portletSession.setAttribute("myKey", "myValue", PortletSession.APPLICATION_SCOPE); Which sets the attribute using application scope. Now you can retrieve the value from a different portlet using: portletSession.getAttribute("myKey", PortletSession.APPLICATION_SCOPE); Hope this helps... All I can think of is shared state in the HTTPSession. Portlet A sets the state into the session during an action request , portlet B picks up that state from the session during the render cycle. by setting the state in the action request you can insure that the state will be changed by the time portlet B comes around to read it .... Note that the HttpSession is only shared between portlets in the same WAR. If you need to share state between portlets across WARs you'll needs to find another way (like a db or some other centrally available store) View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3881417#3881417 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3881417 |

I was thinking about a "navigation registry" , I guess very much along the lines of what you are talking about here. In my view of the world , the navigation registry is a place similar to a file system with the possibility to allow navigation by physical location, but also by arbitrary categorisation. Think of explorer, where the tree shows you the elements, once you click on one, you get the detail view in the "page area" (basically the rest of the page) . I could think of pages, portlets, and external links (URLs) as a good starting point for this. Use case: a user creates a new page and assigns portlets to that page. The page is stored as "New Hires". Now the user can go further, and make the page available in the "corporate directory" folder, and the "HR department" folder. Think of those folders as arbitrary tree structure a user (admin) can create in this navigation registry. Now all you need is a smart piece of code that can generate the view of the tree at any given state. I'd vote for a portlet to do so (think preferences to decide whether to generate a tree view, list view, etc.) , but it could also be a jsp tag, that uses an API that is exposed to those who rather write their own view code. Besides portal pages, the user could also register external URLs and mark them as "_newWindow" or "_overwrite", meaning that once the URL is clicked on, pop a new window, or overwrite the current one. If a user clicks on a portlet in the tree, the portlet gets the entire page, or gets to be in some configurable window state, so that the layout can take care of the view. A bread crumb would be a nice byproduct of this registry (just another jsp tag). What do you think? Am I completely out of my mind ? Just wait: I could go much further. What if you could register all sorts of typed content in this registry (perhaps link to a CM), and assign portlets to those types, so that when a user clicks on a DOC content in the tree, the DOCReaderPortlet gets selected to display the content. What if you now could do searches in the tree, and muc much more. Before you know it, you have a desktop :) ....but as I said, pages and external URLs (and perhaps portlets) would be a good start (and less insane ;) View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3881415#3881415 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3881415 |

Hi, I have to admit that I'm new to portal programming. Is there a way to implement communication between to portlets? (I would prefer a way which conforms to the JSR-168 standard) I played arround with the portlet context but didn't manage to get it work. I have to write a portlet "A" which lists some data sets. I want to use another portlet "B" to show some detail information about a selected data row of portlet "A". Both portlets don't have to belong to the same application necessarily. So is there any way of communication between the two portlets "A" and "B" to let the second one know which detail information to display? Is there any solution to this problem which is offered by JBoss Portal? I would be happy to get some advices because I have to evaluate some portal frameworks and one of the main demands is easy inter-portlet communication. Thanks in advance View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3881405#3881405 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3881405 |

We've been using 4.0.0, so that explains much. I think the use of more primitive management operations will address our requirements. The key for us is to be able to cause state transitions in individual services, along with associated notifications, without undesirable side-effects. Yeah, The portal project I am working on is based on WebSphere Portal Server. It started out on WPS 4.2.1, moved to 5.0.2.2 last November and will move to WPS 5.1 somewhere this summer. We want to use an open source portal solution, and have chosen JBossPortal. Our live portal site can be found at http://my.epoline.org. To actually see a multilevel navigation bar, you need to register yourself for an account. I'll send a screen shot to your email address since I cannot attach it here. I don't see a thread for this, so I'm starting a new one. http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBAS-476 I've been investigating today, there are a number of different problems that need to be solved. 1) Allowing the server to run against a binding other than "localhost" and the testsuite can still be run. This is important for when test machines are shared, and you don't want testsuites colliding. I count 261 references to localhost in testsuite/src/ and that doesn't include references in build files, e.g. see the jaxr tests. 2) Issues with some services using udp (e.g. clustering) that will still pickup requests that are intended for a specific machine running the testsuite. This is for the same problem as (1), but also on the same network where you want to control the machines in the cluster. I don't know really how to resolve this one. Since you are basically with broadcast ports that need to be isolated across different users on the same network. Some sort of mechanism like DHCP where you can lease udp socket/ports? :-) 3) Being able to run the testsuite against a remote machine, i.e. deploy remotely which requires that the testsuite can pass a url other than a file url, or it uses another mechanism such as jsr88 to pass the deployment as binary rather than as a reference url. This is the subject of the JIRA issue. O.K., you checked out the latest. If you want M2 you will need to check out the version tagged JBOSS_MAIL_M2_FINAL. Also JBoss 4.0.0 is a bit out of date. To compile the latest from HEAD try with 4.0.2. Regards, Mike. I downloaded the jboss-mail as Eclipse project from CVS using the following server: anoncvs.forge.jboss.com and the following root: /cvsroot/jboss and then from the head I downloaded jboss-mail. "Scripting" more complex usecases that require additional/more complex behaviours should be done outside the controller using those primitives. If you introduce a method into the controller for every possible usecase that somebody can imagine you will very quickly get a piece of software that is both untestable and unsupportable because the combinations of configuration that need to be tested grow like n^2. Example URLs: deploy/ scans ${jboss.server.url}/deploy/, which is local or remote depending on the URL used to boot the server ${jboss.server.home}/deploy/ scans ${jboss.server.home)/deploy, which is always local file: formErrors = 'You must enter a message before posting.'; } if (formErrors) { alert(formErrors); return false; } else { return true; } } I'm deleteing the original thread since it seems to cause misbehavior on jbportal's part.
