Thanks for your feedback. If you want to write portable
applications in Java then you shouldn't use Java-GNOME.
My goal with Java-GNOME has never been to replace AWT
or Swing. I am coming at this from the opposite direction.
My goal is to expand the options for developers that
want to develop applications for Gnome. If you want
to develop applications for Gnome you should be able
to use C, C++, Python, or Java.
I am just a few days away from releasing support for
native gcj compilation. This will produce binaries from
the Java code and will make the applications even less
portable. At the same time, this only makes Java one
step closer to becoming a "first class" language for
Gnome development.
