We have a request to provide a gcj only build (does not require a jdk). Has anybody looked into this? -Jeff |

Just a few items I noticed: The downloads page is stating that 0.8.1 is the latest release. 0.8.2 has been out for a while and I hope to have 0.8.3 out over the weekend. In fact, you might consider adding information about the stable and development downloads and list the required libraries for necessary for each. The Roadmap page is not completely accurate. The bottom section should be removed. The English News page is missing the announcement of release 0.8.1 although it exists in the translations. Also, 0.8.2 was released on December 17. The translations should be updated. Also, I believe there was an Italian translation submitted. -Jeff > Hi, guys i just want to ask for some help with the web site > updates, i will ask day by day for news, roadmaps and how the > project is going, and every 3 days i will post the news i > colect from here, so send me all the info you have :) > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > The SF.Net email is sponsored by EclipseCon 2004 > Premiere Conference on Open Tools Development and Integration > See the breadth of Eclipse activity. I'm afraid I haven't understood :( I was thinking of opening a new SF project with us as mantainers, and upload the cromagnon's sources to the public. However tommorrow I'm going to get new hardware so I'll just wait few days until I'm setted up, then we can work on it. I was thinking to add few more changes then release a 0.2 (stable) tarball, start a SF project, create a cvs repo, create a m-list, create a quick and simple website. Then we could release a (stable) 0.2 release, and in the meanwhile work on a devel 0.3 version where we use the latest java-gnome code (that is use the FileChooser for example, and the new toolbar/menu system), which eventually will be released as stable 0.4 together with j-g 2.6/gnome-2.6. Let me know what you think. -- Luca De Rugeriis <pie...@li...> |

Hi, If nobody disagrees, I would like to senf this to -developer and hopefully Jeff will also consider adding it as a job request on sourceforge. Hello, The Java-Gnome project produces a set of bindings of the core Gnome developer platform for the Java language. We have recently joined the official Gnome Bindings Release and as part of this have made a large overhaul of our repository structure and build system. We have a working build system but none of us are experts or even experienced in the GNU autoconf/make tools so there are a few areas where we could do with help. Our current build process: From our repository, we release an all-in-one tarball, plus several separate tarballs (one for each module). Each tarball has it's own configure script and make files. Since these have many sections in common, we generate the actual Makefile.in and configure.in files from shared files and *.in.in files using a very simple perl script. The makefiles themselves then compile java-gnome, which involves compiling java source files to java bytecode and native code (with gcj), compiling c source files (jni files) and also packaging everything into a jar file and shared libraries. This part of the build process works well. What we want help with: (in decreasing order of priority) Modifying the configure script so that any java compiler can be used. At the moment, we default to javac and allow kaffe with a configure time option. GNU autoconf-archive has a macro which is supposed to do this, but unfortunately I couldn't get it to work (it wasn't setting the JAVA_CFLAGS variable). Instead, we're using a macro which is very inflexible and looks like it is a hack of a hack. For the separate module tarballs, e.g. libgnome-java, we need to locate libraries which would have been produced by the other tarballs, such as libgtk2.5-java.so. At the moment, these are hand coded to the default installation locations. It would be good if this could be configurable. It would be helpful if we had more parts of the process configurable. For example, if we could say configure --nodocs so that documentation does not get generated. In general, having somebody who knows what they're doing look over our build system and suggesting any improvements which could be made would be very reassuring If you have experience with the standard GNU tools, we really would like to hear from you. Any help you may offer would be very much appreciated. A little knowledge of java would be helpful but is in no way necessary. We will be able to give lots of help if you need it. -- .''`. Hello, I am interested in contributing to this project, hopefully I can begin looking into some example programs (developed using java-gnome) and turn them into fully functional utility programs associated with this project. Based on few emails I read, Mark Howard mentioned about moving "CroMagnon" onto sourceforge. I was wondering if someone can provide more information on the current status and the latest source. Or any other utility programs (or ideas) that can be developed using Java-gnome api which in turn can add value to the Java-Gnome project. Thanks, -Vikram |
