Well, I've been trying to do some work on the gtkhtml2 bindings, but have been stalled due to personal schedule overload. I can try to take a look at this later today... I hope. :) Mark On Oct 22, 2004, at 5:24 AM, Nicholas Rahn wrote: > Hi, > > I would like to use gtkhtml in my java-gnome application. Hello, List! I'm currently developing a GUI for FunkyMD using java-gnome (the libgtk- java thing actually only). As I don't want to require ALL users who just want to run the program but are not motivated to download and install java-gnome, I want to compile my java code into a native linux binary. I've tried this with gcj, and it looks like it is working somehow. Can somebody come up with a step-by-step instruction on how to compile a java-gnome application "right" and how to deploy it then? (statically linked executable?, putting libs into the package? which libs?) Thanks for all information! Thomas Perl (PS: please cc to my email adress because I'm not in the list yet :) |

I've been having problems trying to compile java-gnome from source. I have tried both the 2.7.4 tarball and the CVS version (by hand and via jhbuild). Here's what i get when running configure in libgtk-java: me: /usr/local/src/java-gnome/libgtk-java> ./configure loading cache ./config.cache checking for Cygwin environment... no checking for mingw32 environment... no checking for executable suffix... no checking how to run the C preprocessor... cc -E checking for gcc... gcc checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... yes checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) is a cross-compiler... no checking whether we are using GNU C... yes checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes checking for a BSD compatible install... /bin/install -c checking for db2html... nocommand checking for docbook2html... /usr/bin/docbook2html checking if /opt/blackdown-jdk-1.4.2/bin/javac works... yes checking if /opt/blackdown-jdk-1.4.2/bin/javac works... (cached) yes checking for javadoc... javadoc checking for jar... jar ./configure: line 2420: syntax error: unexpected end of file when running autogen.sh i get this: me: /usr/local/src/java-gnome/libgtk-java> ./autogen.sh Illegal variable name. can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks in advance for your help, Nick |

You are right. Please replace the getImage method with: public Image getImage() { int hndl = gtk_image_menu_item_get_image(getHandle()); if (0 == hndl) return null; GObject obj = retrieveGObject(hndl); if (null != obj) return (Image)obj; return new Image(hndl); } This method will cache the image the first time and return the cached version on subsequent calls. -Jeff On Mon, 2004-10-25 at 09:07, Laurent Martelli wrote: > >>>>> "Jeffrey" == Jeffrey Morgan <Jef...@Br...> writes: > This is going to return a new Image instance each time you call > getImage(), and it may fail since a handle can be negative, but I see > the point. This is a current limitation of the bindings. The gtk library has methods to set and get an Image. Please open a bug against the bindings. We will be starting our 2.9 development effort in the next week or so and I can quickly add this capability. If you want the feature now you can just past the following code into the ImageMenuItem.java file above the declaration of the native methods. public void setImage(Image image) { gtk_image_menu_item_set_image(getHandle(), image.getHandle()); } public Image getImage() { int hndl = gtk_image_menu_item_get_image(getHandle()); if (hndl > 0) return new Image(hndl); return null; } -Jeff > -----Original Message----- > From: jav...@li... > [mailto:jav...@li...]On Behalf Of > Laurent Martelli > Sent: Sunday, October 24, 2004 11:53 AM > To: jav...@li... > Subject: [Java-gnome-developer] ImageMenuItem without a stockid > > > Hello, > > I can't find a way to create an ImageMenuItem with an image of my > own. I think what is happening in that particular example (and the reason you don't have any getWidget()s in the code and yet it still works) is that the glade file used in the example defined the callback functions it needed and so libglade would auto attach them with those found in the java code. Now, you still have to getWidget() if you want to do any kind of widget manipulation cause the only things auto connected are callbacks (which libglade will complain about if they don't exist in your code). > > 2) My glade project includes several windows. There are special "helper" classes for the Appbar, as it's called in libgnome-java, to help you get the statusbar. I'd suggest reading the libgnome-java javadocs a couple of times... It took me more than a couple times to get it the first time... > > Thanks :) > > fred > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: IT Product Guide on ITManagersJournal > Use IT products in your business? Thanks for the info. It is quite strange. Here's a small test program that shows the problem. import java.io.IOException; import java.net.MalformedURLException; import org.gnu.gnome.App; import org.gnu.gnome.Program; import org.gnu.gtk.Gtk; import org.gnu.gtk.ScrolledWindow; import org.gnu.gtkhtml.HTMLDocument; import org.gnu.gtkhtml.HTMLView; public class TestHTML { public static void main( String[] argv ) { // Initialization Program.initGnomeUI("First", "0.1", argv); App app = new App("First", "First App"); app.show(); HTMLDocument document = new HTMLDocument(); HTMLView view = new HTMLView(); ScrolledWindow sw = new ScrolledWindow(); sw.add( view ); try { document.loadURL( "http://www.google.com" ); view.setDocument( document ); } catch( MalformedURLException ex ) { System.err.println( ex ); } catch( IOException ex ) { System.err.println( ex ); } Gtk.main(); } } I compile and run this (with Java 1.4.2 or 1.5) and i get the following exception: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: html_document_new at org.gnu.gtkhtml.HTMLDocument.html_document_new(Native Method) at org.gnu.gtkhtml.HTMLDocument.<init>(HTMLDocument.java:44) at TestHTML.main(TestHTML.java:19) I then run it with strace to see what's going on and i can see that it is loading the correct library, but the UnsatisfiedLinkError is raised just after the load. However, if i run nm on my library, i can see that the above mentioned function is in the library. i thought then that it might be my compile of the libgtkhtml-2.6.2 library, so i re-emerged it. didn't work. then i compliled it by hand into /usr/local. still the same error. perhaps if there's some other gentooers out there (with a standard gentoo setup) they could try out the little program above and see what happens. i'll probably also post to the gentoo forum to see if anyone there has had a similar experience. As for a 2.8 ebuild, let me know if you want some help with testing. Currently, I'm trying to get the CVS version of java-gnome installed, hoping i'll have better luck with that (i have gnome 2.8 installed already as it's in gentoo's ~x86). thanks :) 1) yup, I had noticed for the callbacks.. nifty thing. Didn't realize it wouldn't get the whole thing :\ 2) Doh me! I was just getWidget() on the window, then hide() it.. that's better though. 3) I will read up more for the StatusBar. fred ps: copying list. Hello all I am using the 2.6 libs from debian unstable. I am using eclipse 3.0 for my IDE. Questions first: 1) I have created a Window with glade, and I am tying it in my java code via LibGlade. No problem thus far, except that I don't understand that example (http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/java-gnome/libglade-java/doc/examples/glade/LibGladeTest.java?rev=1.8&view=markup) I have tried it in my own code, but with no success. I have to do something like the following to be able to do something with my widgets: gladeXml = new LibGlade("/home/fblaise/Glade/jgLDAP/jgldap.glade",this); cboExistingConn = (ComboBox)gladeXml.getWidget("cboExistingConn"); If I don't getWidget() my object like this second line shows, despite the fact my widget has the same name in Glade and in my code, I just get a NullPointerException when I invoke anything on it. If anyone can shade some light.. I guess it'd very cool to not manually map each widget, and let LibGlade do it for you. 2) My glade project includes several windows. All my windows pop up when I start the program. Is there anyway to prevent that? 3) The StatusBar problem: When I try to map my status bar like this: statbar1 = (StatusBar)gladeXml.getWidget("statbar1"); It tells me this: could not create widget: org.gnu.gtk.Statusbar Thanks :) fred |

Yes, I have... ...er, I just reconsidered the question and realized that of course I'm running from CVS and have an entire Gnome installation in /opt/gnome2 and that's what I'm linking against. Nicholas, java-gnome 2.8 has a considerably re-arranged internal layout and my experience has been that it works whereas I had trouble with 2.6=20 I promise when 2.8.x is stable I'll get an ebuild out - in fact I'm becoming a Gentoo developer presently largely so I can take care of the java-gnome ebuild. If you want to do fundamental changes, is better to ask before. (you can have a discussion directly on the wiki pages). Hello I would like to modify the wiki here: http://java-gnome.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/bin/view/Main/EclipseDevelopment to explain how to set up the java.library.path from inside a project in eclipse, without going through a shell script. What is the procedure? It would be my first time doing something with a wiki :) thanks fred |
