Along the same note, you can generate javadocs by typing "make doc" in the src directory. -Jeff > -----Original Message----- > From: Clemens Eisserer [mailto:Lin...@we...] > Sent: Monday, June 10, 2002 5:20 PM > To: jav...@li... > Subject: [Java-gnome-developer] APIdoc packaged > > > Hi guys! > > I was unhappy, that there where no downloadable-packages of the > java-gnome-apidoc so I built an BZIP2 archive. > You can unpack the archives with "Bunzip2 archive.bz2". > I hope this will be useful and its not only a waste of your time.... > > Mfg Linuxhippy > > |

Hi guys! I was unhappy, that there where no downloadable-packages of the java-gnome-apidoc so I built an BZIP2 archive. You can unpack the archives with "Bunzip2 archive.bz2". I hope this will be useful and its not only a waste of your time.... Mfg Linuxhippy |

The problem has nothing to do with PangoColor. The problem is that the compiler cannot find jni.h in your include path. Usually this file would be in the directory under JAVA_INCLUDES. I set this with the following statement: if test x$jdk_1_3 != x ; then CLASSPATH="" OS_INCLUDES=`(cd ${JAVA_HOME}/include/; ls */jni_md.h) |\ sed "s/\(.*\).jni_md.h/\1/"` JAVA_INCLUDES="-I ${JAVA_HOME}/include -I ${JAVA_HOME}/include/${OS_INCLUDES}" else CLASSPATH="${JAVA_HOME}/lib/classes.zip:" OS_INCLUDES=`(cd ${JAVA_HOME}/include/; ls */jni_md.h) |\ sed "s/\(.*\).jni_md.h/\1/"` JAVA_INCLUDES="-I ${JAVA_HOME}/include -I ${JAVA_HOME}/include/${OS_INCLUDES}" fi My guess is that your JAVA_HOME environment variable is set to user. Please try to set this to the root of your jdk installation, remove the configure cache and try this again. Please let me know if this works. -Jeff > > jni.h. It looks like the compile is having trouble finding jni.h. Please open up src/Makefile and tell me the value of JAVA_INCLUDES (it should be close to the top of the file). -Jeff > hi, > I'm having problems compiling java-gnome. hi, I'm having problems compiling java-gnome. I've tried a few different things. The errors are most probably due to unsatisfied dependencies, although I have tried to install everything relevant I have found. Please let me know what further tests I should perform. hi, Thanks to everyone for their replies. I have decided to use java-gnome, but I will probably be trying to use the latest code from cvs, with gtk+2 support. Therefore, I know to expect lots of bugs and will try send patches / bug reports to you (I assume the sourceforge trackers are the preferred method). In terms of windows support, I will eventually get the application to work in windows, but I will do most of the development in Linux. Therefore, my work in windows porting won't come for a while. I'll try to go through the documentation & tutorials this week, then next week I'll start on the first program - Batch Text Replacer Wizard (http://tildemh.com/sw/btrwiz/index.shtml). This is a simple test replacer over multiple files. After that, I will move on to my large program, Index Generator, (http://tildemh.com/sw/idgen/). This has been quite popular for windows, but unfortunately has not been maintained for a while. I have many ideas for the interface, which will be quite different to the previous versions. This very complex as it involves many screens. It will therefore be a long time before it is complete. Both projects are open source, open development, using sourceforge for cvs, mailing lists and trackers. I look forward to working with java-gnome and will try my best to send any comments/suggestions/bug fixes I can. As A start, I will suggest that the documentation page of your website should have links to gnome and gtk+ sites (i.e. where all their docs and API references are kept) linuxhippy: I do know about Kylix. My initial quick testing seemed to find many bugs in it. Also, more importantly, I started writing my program when I was learning to program and didn't really know what exactly I wanted IndexGen to do, so it does need a complete rewrite. -- +----------------------------------------------+ | Mark Howard mh...@ca... | | http://www.tildemh.com mh...@ti... | +----------------------------------------------+ |

Yes, of course there is a chance for this to work. Theoretically you only need to read the Linux-Makefile and compile and link the c files like under Linux. I think there sould be only minor compile and link errors. Maybe I have some time to try it out next time... >Also, I >* Development > Is java-gtk being actively developed, by people who are still >interested in it? If you want, you also can compile your java-app nativly with gcj (This doesnt work under Windows for now - gcj3.1 has no jni support under windows). I think the biggest problem is that there are no RPM's avaible. With compiled rpms (with libGTK.so, gtk.jar, gtk.so (for gcj)) it would be easy for ditributions to include this great stuff. cu Linuxhippy PS: You said you're using delphi, there is an commercial app avaible for Linux called "Kylix2" from Borland, with that you can recompile your delphi-apps with only minior changes (If you only used the Borland-Component-Library). I am hoping to have my next release (with full gtk2 support) available prior to the GNOME Summit in late July. That being said, the tree control is still not complete. I am currently working on it. I hope to have it complete and an example available sometime this week. > * windows > Do you have any concrete examples of this actually working under > windows. My progress has been slowed down over the past couple of months due to increased workload on my day job and my involvement on other open source projects. I am now primarily focused on this project. There is another project that provides gtk bindings for java. It is at http://gnome-gcj.sourceforge.net/index.html. This project has posted a document that contrasts java-gnome and their project. This paper is very out of date and no longer reflects reality. I am not sure if it is being actively developed. > > > Thanks in advance for your response. > > > +----------------------------------------------+ > | Mark Howard mh...@ca... | > | http://www.tildemh.com mh...@ti... | > +----------------------------------------------+ > > > _______________________________________________________________ > > Don't miss the 2002 Sprint PCS Application Developer's Conference > August 25-28 in Las Vegas - http://devcon.sprintpcs.com/adp/index.cfm?source=osdntextlink > > _______________________________________________ > java-gnome-developer mailing list > jav...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/java-gnome-developer > |

hi, I'm considering rewriting some of my programs using gtk-java. They are currently written in Delphi, for windows only. Originally, I had planned to learn C and do the ui in gtk. I then moved to thinking about doing it in java (since I know the language a lot better and also because object orientated aspect of it will work really well with the backend). Now I've found java-gtk, I'm considering using this instead. I have a few questions before I start coding though. * gtk2 Does java-gtk use gtk2? if not, is partially working code for gtk2 available. When will gtk+2 version be ready? From my initial look at the gtk docs, I would be wanting the functionality of the gtk+2 trees, which seem to be done differently to the gtk1 model. I have not yet read the full docs, so do not know of other specific details. * windows Do you have any concrete examples of this actually working under windows. This is a major part of my software, so it is essential that there is a chance for this to work. Also, I * Development Is java-gtk being actively developed, by people who are still interested in it? (by looking at the sourceforge files, this seems to be true) Are there any competing gtk-in-java projects? Thanks in advance for your response. +----------------------------------------------+ | Mark Howard mh...@ca... | | http://www.tildemh.com mh...@ti... | +----------------------------------------------+ |

Hi, I just resolved my problem. The error was in my libGTKJava.so.0.8.0 binary, which lacks of all the symbols from the libglade-2.0. I didn't know if the problem come from my system or the java-gnome configure.in but the solution permits to have a working java-gtk system....GREAT! => I am able to run all "java TestGTK" tests (run as good as Swing...speed is very good) without any problems (with sun jdk1.4, GTK2 version 2.0.1, libglade and libxml from Gnome2 pre1) THANKS A LOT TO ALL THE WORKER. I expect to give apps for the examples directory, as soon as I have time to do one, of course :-) For Clemens Eisserer: your classpath problem isn't. Even with only CLASSPATH=/usr/gnome/share/java-gnome/gtk.jar:. set on my linux box, I have no errors like "java.lang not found". Maybe try to set "export JAVA_HOME=/opt/java1.4" or even "export PATH=/opt/java1.4/bin:$PATH". Good luck. May be I will have some time to try to compile and run the TestGTK using gcj...not sure. Hello! I think I've insulate the build-problem! Its the LibGlade.java-file in src/gnu/glade 1. I compiled java-gtk normally, with-gcj-compile -flag. But nothing happend, the makefile doesnt compile anything with gcj. So I built my lib by my self. 2. in the java-gtk/src-Directory: gcj -fjni -fPIC -c gnu/gtk an gdk(glade-problematic!!)/*.java and then gcj -o java-gtk.so -o *.o -shared, then I get an java-gtk.so. 3. If I added the LibGlade.java (I think its called so) to the java-gtk.so, I got the following error: [root@localhost test]# gcj -o test --main=TestGTK TestGTK.o /usr/lib/java-gtk.so /usr/lib/java-gtk.so: undefined reference to `gnu::glade::LibGlade::construct(java::lang::String*, java::lang::String*)' /usr/lib/java-gtk.so: undefined reference to `gnu::glade::LibGlade::makeWidget(int)' /usr/lib/java-gtk.so: undefined reference to `gnu::glade::LibGlade::getWidgetLongName(int)' /usr/lib/java-gtk.so: undefined reference to `gnu::glade::LibGlade::getNativeWidget(java::lang::String*)' /usr/lib/java-gtk.so: undefined reference to `gnu::glade::LibGlade::getWidgetName(int)' /usr/lib/java-gtk.so: undefined reference to `gnu::glade::LibGlade::getNativeWidgetByLongName(java::lang::String*)' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status But, If I did not compile it(LibGlade.jav) and ad it to java-gtk.so, the linking went O.K. ONly with the "-static" this error appears, the dynamically linked app stats normal and works fine!: [root@localhost test]# gcj -o test --main=TestGTK TestGTK.o /usr/lib/gtk.so tic /lib/ld-linux.so.2(*IND*+0x0): multiple definition of `__xstat64' /lib/ld-linux.so.2(.text+0xf860): first defined here /lib/ld-linux.so.2(*IND*+0x0): multiple definition of `__fxstat64' /lib/ld-linux.so.2(.text+0xfa20): first defined here /usr/bin/ld: BFD 2.11.92.0.12 20011121 assertion fail elf-strtab.c:262 /usr/bin/ld: BFD 2.11.92.0.12 20011121 assertion fail elf-strtab.c:262 /usr/bin/ld: BFD 2.11.92.0.12 20011121 assertion fail elf-strtab.c:262 collect2: ld returned 1 exit status But that not so problematic, it works!!! But now the Glade-Examples dont work of cource, because now there is no LibGlade.o in the java-gtk.so , which is very important for me... ;-(( Does anybody know why this LibGlade-error messages are caused or why statically linking doesnt work? I use gcj-3.0.4 (mandrake-Package) and it normally works quiet fine.... Mfg Linuxhippy |

Hello, First thanks to all the guys which have given time to this project.....it's splendid ! I just complie java-gtk and got errors on launching tests progs (version from CVS as I want to use GTK2 only). I have no problems in compiling GTK tests, which indicate that my CLASSPATH is correct. Note that, my LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set on /usr/gnome2/lib. I have compiled libxml2 and libglade in order to have them installed in /usr/gnome2/.... thus libraries search path should not be the problem (JNI library loading error): Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /usr/gnome2/lib/libGTKJava.so.0.8.0: /usr/gnome2/lib/libGTKJava.so.0.8.0: undefined symbol: glade_xml_get_widget at java.lang.ClassLoader$NativeLibrary.load(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary0(ClassLoader.java:1480) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(ClassLoader.java:1404) at java.lang.Runtime.loadLibrary0(Runtime.java:772) at java.lang.System.loadLibrary(System.java:832) at gnu.glib.GObject.<clinit>(GObject.java:141) at gnu.gtk.Gtk.init(Gtk.java:35) at TestGTK.main(TestGTK.java:1330) I have a few questions: - Is libglade (and thus libxml2) necessary in order to use java-gtk with GTK2 (not java-gnome)? (Note that current CVS source do not compile without changes with these libraries missing) If not, I suppose I must change the Makefile....isn't it? - Is this error due to the unfinished state of libglade support in java-gnome or a miss-installation I have done? Thank you to any one which can help me to at least run GTK test and get my hands on java with GTK. Cedric Cuche |

Hi! 1. Wow, it was really hard to set up your java-gnome. But now I´ve a working setup with kaffe, i dont know how to set it up with gcj, i get everytime "undefined reference"-messages... 2. Can I use images (like ToolBar-images, or menu-icons) in projects designed with glade. If I use an project with LibGladeTest-demo with images java-gnaome crashes ;-((.. 3. Is it possible to build the java-sourcecode of projects designed with glade. I dont like tinkering on things I cant see (the .glade-file isnt java-code ;-( ) How much work would it be to write an glade for java? Thx Christian |

libGTKJAR.so and libGNOMEJAR.so links are not removed with "make uninstall". This prevents u from reinstalling with "make install". also the faq gives an example on how to compile, referring to libGNTJar.so. Notice the case difference. The gnu linker is casesesitive, so it wont find the link if u follow this example. S=F8ren |

Hello again ;-(( > This has been reported in the past but I have never been > able to pinpoint the cause. Usually if the developer > types make again it will compile correctly. Let me know > if you are still having problems. > I'm so sorry that I waste your important time ;-( I'm very new in java, and this technic I never tried (jni and so).. OK, the test-examples does compile while make, eg there are in .../test already .class-files. But when I type java TestGTK then only comes: java.lang.NoClassDeFoundError: gnu.gtk I know that there is a gtk.jar in ../lib, and I can compile that with gcj -c gtk.jar. Than I have an object file with 20meg-size ;-(( And when I do this and lik gtk.o to TestGTK: "gcj -fPIC -fjni -g -O -o test --main=TestGTK TestGTK.java gtk.o" then only that comes: >No class or interface gnu.gtk found. >TestGTK.java:1694: Type `GtkHSeparator' not found in the > declaration of the local variable `separator'. > GtkHSeparator separator = new GtkHSeparator(); > ^ > TestGTK.java:1697: Type `GtkVBox' not found in the > declaration of the local variable `box3'. > GtkVBox box3 = new GtkVBox(false, 10); and so on, and so on.... I think I dont understand the system: Where are the needed java-packages, or how can I say gcj and java how to use them?
