Loaded this to a USB Stick and seems to boot up and start well on an OLD laptop. Very cool. Configured (and got an Error but moved forward anyway) connected to a server with musicians and was able to listen. Did not attempt to play any instruments. This looks very awesome and could be key for my band as our one guitar player only has a work laptop he cannot load things on.
Did notice this had Jamulus 3.4.7 but I am on 3.5 (which seems to work much better) and Just saw 3.5.1 is out. Is there a way to upgrade the Jamulus version on the stick?

Yes it would be nice to be able to easily update the OS. I will soon provide ubuntu package that works with Jamulus OS.
If you don't want to wait, you can download Jamulus from Github, install the dev packages and compile it then install it. (It will work only if you have setup a persistent live USB otherwise your system updates will be vanished every reboot).
Download from github selecting the tag version that you want https://github.com/corrados/jamulus/archive/r3_5_1.zip
Open the filemanager and go to the jamulus-r3_5_1.zip in the Download directory then right click "extract here".
Right click on the newly created directory jamulus-r3_5_1 "open terminal here" then copy & paste all the following commands in one shot:
It can take several minutes to compile. If all went fine, "OK" will be display. you can then check the new version of Jamulus in the application menu : "?" then click about.

Laurent, it turned out the persistent live install wasn't really what I needed. It worked ok on some laptops, but laptops with a "Trusted Platform Module" enabled refused to boot it. They also refused to boot if I made a live usb of just straight Ubuntu Studio 20.04. Perhaps the low-latency kernel is the problem.
In the end what I succeeded in making a normal full install of Ubuntu 20.04 (not Studio) and then adding what I needed to get Jamulus working.
But of course I am missing all of your great add-ons that give a connectivity report, and so on. Are these available as a package that I can just add to a normal Ubuntu 20.04 installation?
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
In the startup menu there is also an option of installing (instead of try out without installing). What would the result be, do I need an extra partition on the HD, etc? running from usbstick was still a bit slow to me, and on a faster machine i'm running out of usb ports. I'm Ubuntu Noob, so I was alreay happy to get this running....

The install option requires disk space on a hard drive (at least one disk partition). If you are an ubuntu noob and want to install on a single partition, i suggest to backup your data. 25GB space is recommended for a Jamulus OS installation but it can run with less disk space.
Install Jamulus OS on a hard drive will generally make it faster than running on a USB stick/drive it depends on your hardware.

Merci pour le réponse :-) Partitioning seems logical. Do I need an extra bootloader (grub?) to choose between windows and JamulusOS? And can it also run other Linux programs, or would that make it too heavy ? If I compare a normal Ubuntu setup (as alternative) with a Linux Jamulus, will Jamulus OS be faster?
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Yes you will need grub to start your Linux or windows system.
JamulusOS is made from UbuntuStudio which is made from Ubuntu.
UbuntuStudio and JamulusOS run on lowlatency kernel natively (no need to install it, it is already there) and lowlatency kernel give better performance for real time processing (e.g. audio processing). With more or less configuration steps you can do whatever the same on Ubuntu, UbuntuStudio and JamulusOS.
In fact JamulusOS is binded to ubuntu repositories and add some stuff not yet in the official ubuntu repositories (Jamulus OS related). JamulusOS is a good solution for USB persistent live because it has all software required for basic Jamulus session.
It would be great, I think, to trigger a script as the original user
that lauched the .run file - that script could create the .desktop files
and then they would show up for the correct user.

Hello. I updated yesterday , under jamulusOs , the Jamulus software to version 3.5.12 , following instructions from github for linux. Jamulus client works perfectly (blue icon in the Favoris menu), But all icons ( red )on the " bureau" (desktop ?) continue to execute 3.5.8 version . I tried to apply (without much questionning ) the hint given precedingly in answering "shesakillatwo - 2020-04-18 " for a similar question with version 3.5.1 resuting in error. Does exist another procedure ? Or must I reinstall Jamulus OS, waiting for a nea release ? With my best regards.

I have been using your Jamulus OS installed onto the hard drive and with no problem in running the GUI version of client and server. This Ubuntu version definitely improves the latency in comparison to running Jamulus in Windows. Thanks for making this available especially for someone with no experience on Linux.
Today, I used your "Update Jamulus" short cut and updated to version 3.6.0. No error in the updating process and Jamulus client runs. However trying to run the Server by clicking the Jamulus Server (GUI) icon does not start the server. No reaction from the system. I clicked the NON-GUI "Start Jamulus Service" and the server runs perfectly. Unfortunately the NON-GUI version does not provide a screen to show who has connected. Is there something missing in the Server GUI short cut that this update has broken the link? I have no knowledge of Linux but I can follow installation steps if you can walk me through in rebuilding the GUI Server short cut. Thanks.

cd ~/Downloads or whatever dir you download the file to. sudo cp jamulus-server-start /usr/bin/jamulus-server-start sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/jamulus-server-start
To stop service if icon is not available on desktop, go to application menu (top left of the screen the blue icon) and type "stop" in the search field, this should be enough for whisker menu to find the stop Jamulus service then click on it and you're done.
If you want to create a "stop jamulus service" shortcut on desktop, just drag'n'drop it on dekstop from whisker menu. Don't forget to set the executable permissions in icon properties.

Laurent, could you put instructions on the wiki for making a persistent live USB install ?
Is it this you are looking for ? https://sourceforge.net/p/jamulus-os/wiki/How_to_use_iso_image/

it is not yet available as a seperate install package but i think of it.
Even if i release a seperate install package it would be experimental and with limited support ...
Finally, i released it also as a seperate package.
see: https://sourceforge.net/projects/jamulus-os/files/JamulusOS/v1/install-package/

But you can also decide to install ubuntustudio on your machine and install the newly released jamulus upgrade package on top of it: https://sourceforge.net/projects/jamulus-os/files/JamulusOS/v1/install-package/. But in this case, you will miss the package selection done for JamulusOS.
Thanks Laurent - I have tried it on an Ubuntu 20.04
It tried to put the .desktop files into /root/Desktop, which doesn't exist
So they ended up in /
After I moved them to my regular user's ~/Desktop, they seem to work ok.

I updated the package. Now it should copy the desktop icons in the $SUDO_USER desktop dir.
The last Jamulus OS version (v1.05) has a script that can upload a github version, compile it and install it without any user command line.
Many improvements have been done to this new version.

Hello Jimball,
To update Jamulus in JamulusOS, the prefered way is to use the update Jamulus icon or
sudo update-jamulus

Hello Peter,
Today, I will have a look at your problem.
However, what is the version of the jamulus client you run now after upgrading ? It is indicated in help > about in jamulus client menu.

Thanks Peter for the report !

Hi Laurent,
The updated client version is 3.6.0. I also discovered that the "Stop Jamulus Server" icon also disappeared from the desktop. I don't even know how to stop the server now after I launched it using "Start Jamulus Service " icon. Your attention is very much appreciated.
P.
Parameters have changed in recent jamulus version. You need to upgrade the server starting script:
Just download the file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fI-SWuHCJVg5xg_I_1WuTn8GEWW4Xefm/view?usp=sharing
cd ~/Downloads
or whatever dir you download the file to.sudo cp jamulus-server-start /usr/bin/jamulus-server-start
sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/jamulus-server-start
To stop service if icon is not available on desktop, go to application menu (top left of the screen the blue icon) and type "stop" in the search field, this should be enough for whisker menu to find the stop Jamulus service then click on it and you're done.
If you want to create a "stop jamulus service" shortcut on desktop, just drag'n'drop it on dekstop from whisker menu. Don't forget to set the executable permissions in icon properties.

Sorry i forgot to mention that doing ctrl+alt+t, a terminal will popup and you will be able to input commands.
