Hi, I have updated to Jabref 4.2 and now my custom exports are not working anymore. Although I defined them in Options/Manage custom exports - they are not properly showing up in the dialog of File/Export. A "HTML list file (*.html) element is added to the possible export format in the dropdown list, which is doing a default HTML export but not following my own defined format. I work on Windows 8.3 and have the newest Java version installed. Do I need to change my layout files or is there a bug? |

The openjfx is available for only 64-bit processors and my current desktop has a 32-bit CPU. Ergo, I cannot build and install it here. So, since jabref-3.8.2 works well for me I'll continue using this version until I replace the desktop. Rich |

Hi, I have no clue. Maybe someone on our forum (http://discourse.jabref.org) has? Just to be sure, you also have javafx support running on your slack distribution? For instance, in Fedora, one has to install "openjfx". See http://help.jabref.org/en/Installation#fedora-and-openjdk If such a thing is too complicated, we recommend installing the Oracle JRE. Oliver, I learned that openofx is required and the package author makes it available for only 64-bit processors. My current server is 32-bit so I cannot build it here. Since version 3.8.2 does all I need it to do I'll not upgrade until I replace the server (Real Soon Now) with a 64-bit host. Best regards and happy new year to all, Rich |

I'm running Slackware-14.2 here and the latest JabRef version that runs is 3.8.2. Trying to run 4.0 or (today) 4.1 fails with this error: Error: Could not find or load main class org.jabref.JabRefMain This error appears running it from /usr/bin/JabRef or by specifying 'java -jar JabRef-4.1.jar' in /opt/JabRef. The md5sum sums match. Rich |

Haines, How are you backing up the databases? I back up my network daily using dirvish <http://www.dirvish.org/> which is based on rsync. It saves only differences, not each complete file. You can set it up to back up only certain directories. Not sure it will do so on the same host but reading the so-so docs and asking on the mail list can get answers for your situation. Rich |

I raised this question some time ago but received no responses. I'm running JabRef 3.3 (stuck there because of the oft-discussed groups problem) and have seven databases. When I explicitly back a database up (C-s), the database is saved as /tmp/jabref*.tmp. When I backup again, the old file is overwritten by the new one. However, exactly every five minutes three of my seven databases are automatically backed up to a file named /tmp/jabref*.save.bib. This occurs even though no operations are being done with JabRef. Because there is no automatic deletion of these files each time there is a new save, they accumulate to the point it fills my 20 Gb /tmp directory. It seems the three databases must be configured differently, but I see no difference. In the Preferences for seven I have checked Backup old file while saving. I could write a script to delete these .save.bib files automatically, but I'd rather address the source of the problem. There is nothing in /var/log/cron.log associated with this issue. I think I got the Jabref icon by installing the repo version and then copying the icon from /usr/share/pixmaps/something-or-other. Try searching in /usr/share for "jabref*.xpm" using the Places->Search tool. My icon is called jabref32.xpm. Have even scraped a JabRef icon!) Minor gotcha: Don't know about Mint 18.1 but you need java 8; the openjdk version on Mint 17.3 is 7. Try: java -version If that says "1.7" you need to look at http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2015/01/install-openjdk-8-ubuntu-14-04-12-04-lts/ (or similar) to install the correct java version. P. |

Well I downloaded the last stable release of JabRef from the official website because the release in my distro is quite old (2.10). I have a jar file but I don't know how to install from that, there isn't an rpm or deb file, so I need your helping to know if there is a way to install it as any other software or what to do? After more troubleshooting, it appears I cannot save the database if it contains more than 729 entries.... (???) ...Previously I worked with a library of 7000 entries (v.2.10) -- the only reason I switched versions was because I could no longer import from PubMed due to security changes of some sort (?) I found the answer in http://discourse.jabref.org/t/managing-keywords-no-longer-possible-in-version-3-7/319 and http://discourse.jabref.org/t/content-selectors-are-removed/328/3 The content selectors will come back in the next version. Save them, 3.7 deletes them! I have installed 3.6 now. Daniel |

[Same question at http://discourse.jabref.org/t/managing-keywords-no-longer-possible-in-version-3-7/319/3 ] Hello, Where are the content selectors ("Wortauswahl verwalten"), e.g. "@Comment{jabref-meta: selector_author:…", or by what are they replaced? I used them a lot! The function "Manage Keywords" is not a suitable replacement because: * It is only for keywords and not for the other fields * when I try adding keywords it does not work. Autocompletion is not a suitable replacement because it does not serve the same purpose because I cannot see and manage the list of possible entries. Or should "Manage protected terms" ("Geschützte Terme verwalten") fulfill the function? I could not find out how this works. http://help.jabref.org/en/ProtectedTerms. Daniel |

Until very recently whenever I invoked JabRef (including the current 3.6) the groups interface was displayed at the left side. Now it does not display without manual intervention. I've no idea what changed (inadvertently) and I cannot find a menu item to set the group interface display when the application is invoked. Alt-3 does bring it up, but selecting that before quitting the application does not stick for the next time. Please point me to the proper place to effect automatic display of the groups interface. TIA, Rich |

Hi Running v3.6 on Linux Mint Rosa and openjdk 1.8 I am having problems wit the whole shebang hanging when I try to create a bibtex key using the little 'key' button in the entry editor. The status bar message reports "Status: Empty BibTeX key. Grouping may not work with this entry" and the system monitor reports that the process is sleeping (infinitely!) on futex_wait_queue_me... I have to kill the whole process and restart because the whole of JabRef locks up. Has anybody else observed this issue? Is it related to the openjdk JVM? Does anybody see this with the Oracle JVM?
