More on this issue: just now I tried to increase the size of the right column in the left window (data entry). But when I used the mouse to shift the bar between the data entry and data display windows only the left column of the data entry window expanded. I hope you devs have time to quickly resolve these issues. Should I drop back to jdk8 and JabRef-4.3.1? Rich |

This morning I started adding the backlog of articles and tech reports and discovered some issues that are removed from earlier versions: 1. I cannot paste highlighted text from a PDF displayed using either xpdf or mupdf. The mouse action that pastes highlighted text in its buffer does nothing. This is highly inconvenient when entering abstracts and other text. 2. On the 'optional' page for article data entry the left column is sufficiently wide but the right column is too narrow. For example, there's one-character-wide box for volume number, but when I type the number with the cursor in that box nothing is entered there. It is entered in the wide window on the right which displays information entered on the 'required' tab; the issue number shows up but not the volume number. 3. The format for multiple authors has changed. Where I used to enter, 'last_name, initials and last_name, initials and ...' now there is 'last_name, initials; last_name, intials: & ...'. Should I change how I enter authors to use the new syntax? Regards, Rich |

I'm running JabRef-5.0.0 using Oracle's jdk11.0.4. The scroll bar that used to be on the right side of the category pane does not display, and there is no way to adjust the column widths on the database pane. Have I missed something in configuring the application? If not, I encourage the devs to add that back in as well as the icon to copy citations and references to LyX documents. Regards, Rich |

I've gone through the Preferences and see the connection to export selected references to OO.o/LO but do not see the option to add references to LyX. Since that's the LaTeX editor I use, and I don't see an icon on the icon bar for it, please show me how to invoke this transfer. Regards, Rich |

Today I downloaded the just-release 5.0.0 *.tar.gz and upgraded jdk from 8 to 11. All prior versions of JabRef downloaded a single file e.g., JabRef-4.3.1.jar. These were readily invoked using a shell script that invoked java -jar JabRef-4.3.1.jar When untarred the downloaded 5.0.0 provides three subdirectories: app/, bin/, and runtime. Each contains several files. My question is what file do I use to invoke 5.0.0? TIA, Rich |

I'm running JabRef-4.3.1 on Slackware-14.2/x86_64. When I click on a row to look at the entry I'm sent to a white page with a single line on the top with author, title, and publication rather than to the data entry form where I can look at all tabs. Because there is no back arrow and alt-left does nothing I need to use the menu View -> Focus entry table ... twice. Also, when I entered a a first author's last name in the search box the resulting display was as above. When I tried restoring the entry table view it was not in alphabetical order and clicking on the Author tab just switched the disorder sequence. Not sure if all this is me not doing things the way I used to do them with earlier versions. Rich |

I had been using JabRef-3.8.2 on the old desktop and now use JabRef-4.3.1 on the new desktop. I have questions about changes: 1. Using the JabRef -> Lyx link icon I inserted a citation in the LyX text and the reference was inserted in the bibliography. However, when I tried to preview the output LaTeX refused because the reference has deprecated font syntax, specifically '\sc' and '\bf'. These have been replaced with '\textsc' and '\textbf', respectively. How do I get JabRef to use the accepted formats instead of the deprecated ones? 2. Looking at refereces in the JabRef UI I see small, yellow triangles by some fields on some references. Holding the cursor over them shows me what JabRef does not like. With multiple authors on a publication, I've always specified authors as 'Lastname1, F.I. and Lastname2, F.I. and ...'. JabRef's flag says this is not acceptable JabRef format. Why not, and what is? In the title field when uppercase letters begin words other than the first one JabRef tells me that they're not written within braces. Do I need to change all entries so that uppercase letters other than at the start of the title are within curly braces? 3. Is there a changelog showing all changes in 4.3.1 from earlier versions, specifically 3.8.2? TIA, Rich |
