The Info.plist for JabRef does not include "Document types"; therefore the Finder cannot associate JabRef with .bib files as the default application.
Also, the Info.Plist sets the type as APPL, but does not set the 4-letter application identifier for JabRef. I propose that JABr be used.
Thank you - I wasn't aware of these shortcomings. However, it looks like the Jarbundler tool that we use has the necessary features to implement these things. Would you be willing to help test the package once I've looked into it further (I don't have access to a Mac for testing)?
