I'm a new user of icarus verilog and just descovered IVI plugin for eclipse. I'm having hard time in guessing what is on the low-resolution screenshots of the "IVI Exemple Design" page. In particular, I cannot see what I should have or set in the section "Prepare for Simualation". Can anybody send me its own screen shot or provide me with instuction about what to do, how to create the launch configuration? Sergio PS. I'm on Gentoo, with Eclipse 3.2.1. |

My preferred approach here is to create a Verilog project around your existing source. The steps would be something like: - backup your source in case anything goes wrong... - Select File->New->Project ... IVI Verilog Project - Pick a name for your project - Deselect the 'Use Default' checkbox - Enter the location of your source in the 'Directory' entry. - Select 'Finish' A '.project' file is created in your source directory and the new project appears in the Eclipse navigator. > - How do I use +libext switch and -y option in IVI > Cver? (I have a design > that uses Xilinx primitive library, and therefore, I > need to use the above > mentioned switch and option.) Unfortunately, IVI doesn't support specification of options like these right now. My impression is that these options are specific to Verilog, but likely supported by all Verilog simulators. I would suggest adding a configuration pane to the Verilog Project properties to setup paths to library directories. I cannot commit to a schedule here, but I'll begin investigation... > - How do I simulate a design with an SDF file in IVI > Cver? (I will like to > make sure that the Xilinx's PAR correctly mapped the > logic to an FPGA.) Again, IVI doesn't currently supply a way to specify an SDF file. I suspect this option should be launch-specific and not tied to a project. Does this sound right? Here, again, I'll begin investigating... Unfortunately, IVI/Eclipse is currently very feature-incomplete. Though my development bandwidth is low, I'm always interested to hear what features are desirable (helps to prioritize my effort). Code contributions are always welcome as well! Hi, Now that I managed to get at least one computer working with IVI Cver 1.0.2_1, I am just wondering how do I simulate a "real" design with IVI Cver? These are the obstacles I have identified so far. - How do I register Verilog files in Eclipse's Navigator without letting Eclipse import (copy) the Verilog files to Eclipse's workplace directory? (I just want the Verilog files in one location, not two for file management reasons.) - How do I use +libext switch and -y option in IVI Cver? (I have a design that uses Xilinx primitive library, and therefore, I need to use the above mentioned switch and option.) - How do I simulate a design with an SDF file in IVI Cver? (I will like to make sure that the Xilinx's PAR correctly mapped the logic to an FPGA.) Hi, I finally got IVI Cver working with one computer. Here is how I did it. I first tried Eclipse 3.1.0M7 Matthew Ballance recommended for IVI Cver 1.0.1 (http://ivi.sourceforge.net/install.html.) with JRE 1.5.0_05 in a Windows XP SP2 PC. Unfortunately, with Eclipse 3.1.0M7, Cver cannot seem to compile the Verilog files (I got an error "FATAL ERROR** [301] no Verilog input files specified.") for some reason. Matthew told me to try Eclipse 3.1.1, and finally with that version, Cver successfully compiled minirisc reference design's Verilog files. (JRE was still 1.5.0_05.) However, IVI Cver still doesn't work on my Windows 2000 PC. Hi Kevin, Java 1.4 and 1.5 should be usable with IVI 1.0.2_1. I develop IVI using Java 1.5, but compile to target Java 1.4. Eclipse 3.1.1 is the preferred version. Eclipse 3.1.0 should be usable (3.1.1 was just bugfixes). Hi, I am wondering which version of JRE and Eclipse should I use for IVI Cver 1.0.2_1? I tried Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0_05 and Eclipse 3.1M7 Platform with both Windows 2000 SP4 and Windows XP SP2, but Cver.exe crashes when I try it with Windows 2000, and Cver.exe itself doesn't crash with Windows XP, but Eclipse cannot seem to get Cver to compile the minirisc reference design. Eclipse 3.1M7 was the recommended version for IVI Cver 1.0.1, but has that changed for 1.0.2_1? What about JRE? Hi Ryan, I'm definitely interested. Feel free to either post the patch here on the list or post it to the 'patch' portion of the IVI project patch. I assume the patch is against IVI 1.0.2? Matthew, I have a patch that adds support for declaring an +include path to cver, if you are interested. Nothing complex, just a simple property page for net.sourceforge.ivi.core.iviProjectNature projects. I can either post it here or email it to you privately. Thanks for your hard work. Ryan |

This error indicates that you are using a Java 1.4 JRE. I developed the plugins with Java 5.0. It looks like I missed a few places where the JRE target should be specified as 1.4. I'll look into making a new release over the weekend to fix this problem. -Matthew --- Piotr <pio...@op...> wrote: > > hi, > > I am trying to use ivi 1.0.2 with eclipse 3.1.1 on > windows xp home. > First of all I couldn't install > 'net.sourceforge.ivi.cver.tools.win32_installer_1.0.2.zip' > - I got > messages about wrong version 49.0 (I could get it > more accurately if you > need). hi, I am trying to use ivi 1.0.2 with eclipse 3.1.1 on windows xp home. First of all I couldn't install 'net.sourceforge.ivi.cver.tools.win32_installer_1.0.2.zip' - I got messages about wrong version 49.0 (I could get it more accurately if you need). To overcome this I unpacked eclipse on another machine (win98), installed the plugins and now I try to use it back on xp home. I created debug configuration (on win98) under 'IVI Cver Verilog' but I get 'Exception occured creating launch configuration tabs', reason 'plugin net.sourceforge.ivi.cver.ui was unable to load class net.sourceforge.ivi.cver.ui.launcher.ivicverlaunchtabgroup'. can anyone help? Hi, Currently, you cannot use Icarus Verilog with the eclipse-based IVI. The work necessary to get this working should be too much (a few Java files and a bit of VPI code). The eclipse-based IVI doesn't support Icarus at this time because, at this stage of development (IVI/eclipse is still _very_ alpha), getting more features working on one simulator is more important to me than having few features working on several simulators. I wouldn't necessarily say that there are major advantages to Cver over Icarus. Cver has been used in a production environment, so I tend to believe that it's a little more 'complete' (I know it's PLI interfaces _are_ complete, while Icarus' are not). For me, packaging up Cver was easier than Icarus (Cver has one executable, while Icarus has quite a few files) and that's the major reason I integrated it first... How can I use Icarus Verilog instead of Cver for simulation using IVI and eclipse? What advantages/disadvantages has Cver comparing with Icarus Verilog? |

Glad you can confirm that this works for IVI 1.0.1... I just discovered (and fixed) this bug on IVI 1.0.2 yesterday. The binary packages don't install because the "id" field of the feature's listed in the site.xml files does not match the "id" of the feature in the feature.xml file. From site.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <site> <feature url="features/net.sourceforge.ivi.win32_1.0.1.jar" *id="net.sourceforge.ivi" *version="1.0.1"> <category name="IVI 1.0.1"/> </feature> <category-def name="IVI 1.0.1" label="IVI 1.0.1"/> </site> From feature.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <feature * id="net.sourceforge.ivi.win32"* label="net.sourceforge.ivi" version="1.0.1" os="win32" > ... See that "net.sourceforge.ivi" does not match "net.sourceforge.ivi.win32". I can only assume the linux packages have the feature suffixed with .linux instead. Hand editing the files produces packages that install fine. Ryan |

Hi Nathan, The binary installer doesn't work on Eclipse 3.1 (release). Not sure why, but the issue will be resolved in the lagging but upcoming IVI 1.0.2 release. Your best bet is to obtain Eclipse 3.1-M4. To do this: - go to eclipse.org - click on 'Downloads' - select 'Platform: Downloads'. It's in the second paragraph ('Eclipse Project'). - Click the 'archived builds' link. It's at the end of the third paragraph. - Locate 3.1M4, click the link, locate your architecture, etc... Best of luck! -Matthew --- Nathan Fairchild <nf...@do...> wrote: > Forgot to mention jre version: > > [nfairc ~]$ java -version > java version "1.5.0_03" > Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition > (build 1.5.0_03-b07) > Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_03-b07, > mixed mode) > > > Maybe I need 1.4.2? > > Nate > > > On Aug 20, 2005, at 12:08 AM, Nathan Fairchild > wrote: > > > Hello, > > > > I'm brand new to eclipse. Hello, I'm brand new to eclipse. I'm only installing it to try out IVI, but I can't get the binary install to work. I'm using Eclipse 3.1 that I just downloaded, running on RHEL3 linux 32-bit, displaying on Mac OS X via X11. Perhaps someone could help me out. The procedure I've gone through is below. Matthew, I noticed in an earlier e-mail you recommended Eclipse 3.1- M4, but I wasn't able to find that exact version for download at eclipse.org, just 3.1 - the file I downloaded is eclipse-SDK-3.1- linux-gtk.tar.gz Thanks! Nate __________ Install Procedure I downloaded and installed eclipse I downloaded: net.sourceforge.ivi.cver.linux_installer_1.0.1_1.jar net.sourceforge.ivi.cver.tools.linux_installer_1.0.1_1.jar net.sourceforge.ivi.linux_installer_1.0.1_1.jar start eclipse Help -> Software Updates -> Find and Install choose 'Search for new features to install' button click Next Next Window entitled 'Update sites to visit' click on 'New Archived Site' on the right point it to first .jar file pop-up window shows: Name: net.sourceforge.ivi.cver.linux_installer_1.0.1_1.jar URL: jar:file:/home/nfairc/cad/ivi/ net.sourceforge.ivi.cver.linux_installer_1.0.1_1.jar!/ click OK similar procedure for next two .jar files click 'Finish' button - as 'Next' stays greyed out Next Window entitled 'Search Results' is blank, and says 0 of 3 selected I uncheck 'Show the latest version of a feature only' and .jar files appear with checkboxes check all 3 checkboxes 'Verifying version' flash by on the bottom of the window as I click. Not sure it says exactly that, goes by so fast. Now I'm stuck. Only 'Cancel' is ungreyed - Finish and Next are greyed out. Buttons on the right - only 'Deselect All' and 'Select Required' not greyed out. |

Hi Linas, Not really sure about the 'Builder'. Cver does not need a builder - it operates on a list of Verilog files, much like Verilog XL. I did a little grepping around in the source tree to see if I had left something behind, but didn't see anything... I wasn't able to reproduce this issue on Linux. I might try when I'm next in Windows... Did you install IVI 1.0.1-1 into a clean Eclipse tree (a tree without prior versions of IVI installed)? Have you tried opening Eclipse on a fresh workspace and re-importing the example project? I'm wondering if something is left behind from a prior IVI install... You should not need to 'build' Cver project. Open the 'Eclipse Simulation' perspective and click on the 'debug' icon on the toolbar (you may need to create a launch instance via this icon before running simulation). Can you confirm that the above procedure works? Has anyone else run into this error? Matthew, It looks like it almost works.=20 If you open the 'minirisc' example and click on the Properties->builders = it shows that=20 net.sourceforge.ivi.core.iviCverBuilder is missing. I've checked the jar files and I don't seem to be able to find it. Hi all, Due to some recently-reported problems with IVI and Eclipse RC2/3, I am recommending that IVI 1.0.1 be used exclusively with Eclipse 3.1-M4. You can find this version of Eclipse at: http://eclipse.org/downloads/index.php Scroll down to the section titled "3.1 Stream Stable Builds". The issues IVI currently has running with Eclipse 3.1RCx will be resolved in IVI 1.0.2. Thanks and Regards, Matthew __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Hi, I have the same problem. I am not able to install the IVI .jar files in Eclipse SDK 3.1RC3 running on a Debian/Sarge Linux host.
