Pragmatism is expected to dominate in a resource constrained environment.
It's usually only the aesthetically hideous issues that get addressed. And
don't get me started on aesthetically icky code that is perfectly
functional. I suppose it doesn't help that we are using C/C++. Which is
just part of the toll we pay for portability.
