#90 Issue with setting up Session Themes for TN5250J sessions

We have been using the TN5250J Emulation sessions with iSphere for a while and are very pleased with the quality and functionality. Recently, one of the Team members asked if they could change the background colors for certain sessions, to make it more identifiable.

The iSphere documentation explained the process for setting up Session Themes to allow unique emulation configurations, but we are having an issue wihen trying to save a Theme for a session. The "Save as Theme.." context menu option brings up screen forsavings the Theme to folder .tn5250j under my user directory folder. I enter in the Session Theme name and press "Save". Then, when I do the "Maintain Session"option for that session, that Theme does not show up as an option. Only the *NONE option.

I have tried this with several of the sessions and cannot save a Session Theme. Is there a configuration setup that needs to be in place to allow Session Themes to be saved?

Thanks!

    Thomas,
Thank you for the quick response to my question. I copied the Green Screen.theme file to the .tn5250j folder, as you had suggested. Additonally, I made copies of the Theme file for all 7 of the iSeries server sessions that we use and rename them to correspond to the corresponding server session. Then, when the user sets up their Display session in iSphere, they link their session to the corresponding Theme file.

This setup is working very well now , and the users are very satisfied.

    Hi Harvey,

There is a bug that prevents a theme from being saved when the current theme is '*NONE'. You have two options to get around that defect:

    • Copy the "Green on Black.theme" file into your .tn5250j folder and change your session to that theme, if you want to start from a green/black theme.
    • Change your session to one of the built-in themese and start designing your own theme from there.

The bug will be fixed in 3.6.3, but I do not yet have an idea of the release date.

    Regards,

    Thomas.
