#74 Compare Editor Preset Values for "Right" Library/File/Member

When I invoke iSphere's "Compare Source Members" utility by right clicking a member in RSE, the fields for "Left" are correctly preset with the library, file and member names of the member I had right clicked.
But the fields in the "Right" section always have the same values of a member I had compared to another one some time ago, it apparently doesn't update. The behavior also occurs when I run RDi as a Windows administrator.

It's Rdi 9.6.0.6 on Windows 8.1 with iSphere 3.5.4.r (just updated to check if the problem still exists).

iSphere uses IBM's QSYSMemberPrompt class for prompting for the source file, library and member. QSYSMemberPrompt can update a history file with the current values when asked for that. Sadly iSphere does not (yet) call the updateHistory() method of QSYSMemberPrompt.

I already chanegd that in the repository but did not yet create a new beta version. So the next iSphere version will update the history file.

    Hi Thomas,

    that's great, thank you!
To me, it'll make comparing a lot easier and faster.

Nevertheless, I want to make another suggestion:
When someone chose the "Left" side source member before invoking the Compare Tool (e.g. by right clicking a member in RSE), maybe you should consider presetting the "Right" member with the data of the chosen member. Reason: When I compare two source members, it's mostly the same member on a different machine or in a different library or two members in the same library on the same machine with almost identical names like PGMV1 and PGMV2.

So when I pass the "Left" member it would be convenient to have its path also on the "Right", unless I had compared it to another member before--then the values from the history would be better, I think.

    Best regards,
    Markus

      Markus,

I am not in the office next week and I have almost no Internet connection. I will get back to you, when I am back.

      Regards,

      Thomas.

    Hi Markus,

I just released iSphere 3.5.5.r. I did yet store history values for members identified by connection, library, srcFile and srcMbr, but at least iSphere now stores the history values depending on the number of members selected. This way you have different history sets for 0, 1, 2 or more selected members.

    Regards,

    Thomas.

    Good morning, Thomas,

I installed the new version and it already paid off: My first attempt to test the change resulted in a "member locked" message, as it often does, because I tend to forget to close the to-be-compared members in LPEX. So I closed the member and restarted the iSphere Compare tool. What a relief: I didn’t have to reenter library, file and member name. Awesome, thanks a lot! :-)

    Regards,
    Markus

    Just for your information:

Setting the previous used values when opening the compare editor has been disabled by default, again. It can be enabled with two new options (right and ancestor member) on the iSphere "Compare" preferences page.

The previously used values are always loaded when the compare editor has been started from the iSphere menu (of the main menu bar).

    Thomas.
