While re-installing 0.25, something unusual popped up in the installer, it was trying to connect to the internet according to Little Snitch. Installer.app was trying to reach ev1s-67-15-16-38.ev1servers.net and Little Snitch caught it and I blocked it because I have no idea what it is. Little Snitch caught this connection attempt when the "This package contains a program that determines if the software can be installed. Are you sure you want to continue?" dialog popped up. The key here is that the connection attempt occurred BEFORE I clicked continue. This seems like it might be considered a bit of an invasion of privacy, and I have been using Little Snitch for months now and never seen a standard .pkg file installed using Installer.app try to phone home. I compared the files available from various mirrors for 0.25 and found they all did this and the MD5s matched. What's up with spying on users? -Galen |
