#104 Additional fields for Computer Info
I'm not sure if your adding additional fields, I
haven't seen any new ones get added even though there
has been many requests for some additional fields. I'd
like to offer several more into the mix.
Right now the IP, MAC, and Network fields that are
apart of "Computer Info" is redundant. We are using
these fields (as well as several others fields) to hold
the information that we wish to track. Some of the
fields are for internal information, but several fields
might be useful to other people so I offer them here
for inclusion...
We have a development / test lab, and don't track
hardware details. We do however have to track security
and audit compliance info, and below are examples of
the fields :
1.) processor field has become "Equipment Status" and
is populated by the following values on the
setup-index.php page : AVAILABLE, ASSIGNED, BROKEN,
INFRASTRUCTURE, OFFSITE, RESERVED, SCRAPPED, STRIPPED
as examples. I'd like to see a separate field for this
with a dropdown listbox of its own on setup-index.php.
2.) processor_speed has become "Customer Number" - A
field that identifies the owner of hardware that we are
hosting in our lab. I'd like to see a separate field
for this as well.
3.) ramtype dropdown listbox now holds "Data
Classification" and is populated with Internal
Confidential, Customer Confidential, Non-Confidential
4.) network dropdown holds "System Purpose" -
Development, Departmental, Test, Support
5.) mac holds "Last System Review Date"
Not sure if any / all of these are helpful to others
but some I think merit their own fields. Besides, I'm
tired of having to change the php pages everytime
theres a new release.... 8o)

We're not adding fields because we're hoping to get a Brand!
New! Shiny! system out the door which will allow users to
easily customise their systems to display the fields *they*
want to use. Hopefully I'll get the necessary work done
sometime before the heat death of the universe... (grin)

I have similar needs but would like to include more than just
computers.
We already put all Devices with an IP address. I would like to
see the "Computers" Header changed to "Devices" and have
the page display relative fields specific to that devices. VoIP
Telephone Sets, Digital Senders, Routers, Printers, Norstar
Phones and Cell Phones. My IT department is responsiable
for everything thing technology related and would like to keep
a single system.
Also I have a Need for some Accounting Fields Such as:
Lease, Lease Term, Cost, and if possiable a Field that would
allow me to upload a copy of the Invoice/Contract to attach to
a device. I may be willing to pay for these enhancements as
long as it does not cause a fork in the develeopment and
stays in line with the current maintainers plans.
