In my opinion, the slides are bad. They are not well made. No page numbers, no or few illustrations...
This is a little bit strange because Linus has very good communication skills (see topic "I don't actually do public speaking very much" on https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3178938&group_id=396010&atid=1684593\)
Well, I agree with him when he says "I am really really really bad at doing slides". [0:01:38] hehehehe...
In his slide "Content" we can read "(bah. He wrote this in a hurry last night. Don't expect miracles)".
Refering to what I said in the topic "I don't actually do public speaking very much", I think the slides are purposely simple and ugly. First it creates some kind of "not serious" atmosphere (see the good/bad GIT/CVS references) and second it directs the attention on Linus because there is nothing on them. I see it as a method of capturing the attention of the crowd.

I think that in fact it might be that the slides are made very bad on purpose: Linus presentation skills are good and i think he wants interactivity with the audience, that's why he asked for questions. this way he can identify better the needs of the audience, while if he had very nice slides, the audience could have waited to ask their questions, because the answer could have been in the slides. this way it is clear that it won't be, which push them to ask linus directly what they want to know. concerning the clarity of the slides: they are clear only if linus explains them: again, i think he wants questions, that why they are so brief.
Well for me, the slides were just guidelines for Linus and the purpose was not a lecture in an amphitheater
the thing is the important was said in the presentation and it was more interesting when the questions rose and the speech became interactive
the slides are so simple and doesn't have any artistic effect because he was focusing on his oral skills ... he even wrote his jokes on the slide show ...
in a clear power point, from the first slide we should able to detect the why and how ... the slide show is visual support for the presentation. There should be a good content ...and slides must be linear and there is a conducting chain between them, which is not present in Linus 's presentation...
