There are some comments about the first ten minutes of the video:
• Linus doesn’t like CVS and SVN;
• BitKeeper has a different vision;
• A lot of flows that they use with Git came from the flow of BitKeeper;
• BitKeep need a replacement because it is commercial. But after some time it allowed to be used in open source projects, with the restriction that you are supposed to don’t try do to reversal engineering. Linus is happy because he thinks that open source is the only right way to do software and he can use a good tool for that.
Linus says that GIT was partly inspired by BitKeeper because "BitKeeper is the only commercial source control management system that actually does distribution"[0:05:01]
He also emphazises on the fact that GIT was inspired by BitKeeper but that GIT is diffrent from it from a technical angle. [0:04:32]
Linus also says that he was pleased with Bitkeeper but because of some « stupid » persons who didn’t agree with him, he was forced to create a SCM even if he is not very interested with this subject.
