Why is Linus concerned with the drugs that his lieutenants use or don't use? Are there examples in the history of open source of developers turning mad?
Well, Linus wants to believe in their actions but he's doubting of their
attention on what they are doing. They are maybe like US colonels, mad and crazy into screaming all day.
To respond to the second question, about developers turning mad, i can say that the first example is the hacker, but with further research i discovered on wikipedia that there are two approches of open source regarding the ethics :
- Open Source Ethics as an Ethical School — Charles Ess and David Berry
-Open Source Ethics as a Professional Body of Rules - based on software development in particular
If we take for example a well known open source programme as Facebook I can respond better to the question.I also saw the movie and i read about the story, so to me, this student, Mark Zuckerberg, did turned mad ... for passion. He has an innovative and genius mind, because maybe he has forgoten to take his medication.
I hope I did answer to the questions, because this is just how I see the affaire.

I m not sure that we must take the expression " stoped using their medecine" litterally but most as a metaphor. Even a genius has its bad day and makes errors sometimes so Linus can't be 100% sure of the works of the most reliable "friends" and in this case its important to have a secure system.
