IPMIv2 includes encrypted sessions, which would allow you to _change_ you= r password on a secure line once you authenticated with an existing password. IPMIv1/v2 does not include any type of public key authentication, though IPMIv2 includes provisions for extensible OEM authentication (and authorization/encryption) policies. I don't know how well thought out this mechanism is though, because I haven't had a chance to explore it in detail. This would of course require the remote console and BMC to be aware of th= e custom OEM policy.
