After a reboot I attempted to start up ipblockUI like I always do and got this series of error msgs (the output of egrep … /var/log/errors.log)
Aug 21 09:06:39 myhost iplist: error: can't convert 192
Aug 21 09:06:39 myhost iplist: error: no running iplist instance found
Aug 21 09:06:48 myhost iplist: error: can't convert 192
Aug 21 09:06:48 myhost iplist: error: can't send job to msq
And here's the output of DEBUG=1 sudo ipblock -sl
iplist: error: can't send job to msq
ipblock: error: failed to start, cleaning up
Of course, the "no running instance" only occurs once because iplist CAN be started, it's ipblock that won't. Subsequent attempts to start it result in the "can't convert 192" and "msq" error. In a previous thread someone else had this "can't convert" problem and it was fixed by log off/log on, which I have done repeated times with no improvement. 192 is the beginning of my localhost address, so I feel as though I'm missing something obvious, or at least something that might be obvious to someone with more knowledge than myself. Searched everywhere for a solution to this, but I could only get 1 hit on google and it offered no solution. Also, I'm using Archlinux 64bit. Thanks in advance for any help.

I got it to start by removing the bogon.gz url.
isumward 's post got me thinking. and I remembered that the log always showed lot of hits on 192.x.x.x
There must be something in the most recent bogon list? I really don't know much about these things I just mess around until something works.
Hopefully someone will have a real solution and I hope I helped a little.

Hi there, I had the same Problem today, it seems that the Bogon.gz was faulty.
I removed all entries at (root) /conf/ipblock.conf -> BLOCK_LIST="… " and deleted all files at /var/cache/iplist (maybe deleting only BOGON.GZ would help you already).
Then I added blocklist's URL, one by one, directly checking after it downloaded by enabling Ipblock.
Well, it worked - hope that I could help you…

Works! Maybe an error in an update? I uncompressed the bogon.gz file and looked through the list and found this line at the very bottom: Bogon:192.231.188.0-192
I deleted the line, gzipped the file again, reversed the changes and loaded up no problem. Thanks for the help, everyone.

Sorry I can't help, I am having exactly the same problem.
Just thought I would let anyone who can help know that more than one person is having problems with iplist and the ipblock GUI.
I use Ubuntu 10.04 (lucud) on three computers and for no apparent reason the same problem appeared on all three at the same time.

correction .. I removed all entries at (root) /etc/ipblock.conf

The last entry in bogon.gz is:
192.231.188.0-192
I changed that entry to:
192.231.188.0-192.231.188.255
and the program started up fine.
what i wonder is who is putting that into the file and why?
Nonetheless a faulty line should be ignored. I'll put that in the next release.
