Why does my cable modem talks so much? The status ligth shows a lot of Internet traffic, even when no one is using our home network.

To find out, placed a laptop on the link connecting my cable modem with my network router, and I'm running IPAudit on the link to record the traffic 24/7. Here's how I set it up.
