This page will hopefully evolve into one describing all the details of the game, but because the game is still in its infancy, I am not filling in much content here yet. However, you can see the game for yourself as it stands by clicking on any of the links in the "Revision" column on the [reviews] page.

The game is basically a platformer game -- jumping, running, riding platforms, avoiding enemies, collecting objects to solve puzzles. And one unique aspect to this game is the ability to build little robots out of components you collect. Components can perform functions such as moving the robot, creating objects, or applying conditions to the other functions by powering the components always or under certain conditions. Containment fields (which look like bio-hazard symbols) can ensure that the small, but powerful robot components don't escape their intended area of use.

The graphics in the initial version are very simple, with the main focus of effort being on the gameplay. The hope is that some skilled iota builder(s) will come along and provide the game with some beautiful graphics at some point, either all at once or bit by bit. But games are often fun to play even with basic graphics.

The game starts you out in a tutorial level where it teaches you a few of the basic mechanics, such as climbing and jumping, as well as how to use a few of the components in this first, incomplete version of the game, such as bombs, torches and a few of the robot components. You are also introduced to the worm, one of a few creatures available to inhabit the iotaBuildIt world in this initial base release. And the seed is a relatively sophisticated component which can grow plants of various shapes, deploying objects from the tips of its branches as it matures (after being watered).

I hope that more items, robots and creatures will come into being as the project develops. But even with the basic components already available, I think some enjoyable gaming is possible just by adding and enhancing existing level designs.
