Neil, Welcome to the club. You are not alone. I'm a lowly Windows guy too and except some rare cases I'm using Visual Studio as well. I have a complete Linux environment here to do things when needed. I rarely need it for programming and if, than I'm still one of them using the old style comand line interface via a terminal emulator from my Windows PC. However, most things I do for Linux/Unix is Java related and I do most development using Eclipse, IBM Visual Age or Websphere Studio.
