Often the chat list UI shows a chat as unread and you ended up clicking into it just to discover that your friend bombarded you with another 10 brainrot content...

Thanks to Instagram CLI, you won't be distracted by the reels, but this wastes another minute of your time and sends a read status to your friend even though you haven't watched the reels at all.

Poor friend, he thought you're ghosting him like that recruiter at FAANG!

Even poorer you, when you login into Instagram web or mobile to watch their reels (to show that you care about another fellow human being) you had to try hard to remember "whose reels haven't I watched?" since that chat is marked read already...

There are many ways to solve this, the simplest is just to not send a read status if the unread messages contain reels.

we might be better off adding a brainrot warning next to the chat title if unread messages contain reels, simply not marking read might cause bad UX if unread messages are a mixture of reels and text.

I think a minor change we can at least do is that if the chat contains any brainrot message (which we already parsed so easy to detect), we do not send the read signal so that in the future you can go back to the web app and watch those reels lol. I often ended up missing like 30 reels and others think I'm getting annoyed so this sounds like a more usable feature

ok sure but when u add this can u put a toggle in the config file somewhere that turns on/off this behavior, also maybe a more general "send read receipt" config that applies to all messages I think this is a nice feature to add

agreed, just add a send read receipt & mark chat as read toggle for both, this associates with [#77] as we will probably make a real toggle interface that looks better like hugging face CLI or firebase CLI instead of just manually typing all the config options
