I would like to use the same block size as you are using to write my video archives to tape (i.e. tar -cv -b512 -f /dev/nst0 xyz.dv). However, I get a tar "input/output error" whenever I use a blocking factor > 128.
I have tried everything I can think of, including editing the st_options.h file, setting #define ST_BUFFER_BLOCKS 256 and recompiling the kernel, but nothing works.
Please can you tell me how you have managed to get tar working with a 256k block size.
Kind Regards
