Gnome 2.x, glibc 2.2.x or above bascially one supporting UTF-8 locales. Then download the Indlinux-Hindi package from http://www.indlinux.org/downloads/, its at present specific for Redhat , but you can modify the install scripts to suit your distro - at the most you would only need to change paths for locale definition.
