Hello, I'm working with a financial technology firm looking to hire someone that has spent substantial time working in India and another westernised country - preferably the UK; with dual citizenship and born in India This person would be responsible for building-out an Indian technology hub; selecting an office, recruiting staff, as well as other admin and management duties. It is critical that this person has strong leadership experience Remuneration will be London based It would be expected that this person be based in India for at around 2 years Consequently, I had hoped that you may like to discuss further I can be reached using "JamesBTobin (at) Gmail (dot) Com" Kind regards, James |

Hi, I created this telegram group (Hindi FOSS localization). - Aim is to get more/new people in, increase participation. - a broader group , not specific to a project. - Not to replace Project specific forums/discussions, which can go on in their specific forums (lists/IM). Link to join https://t.me/joinchat/yKu_qajfsKQxYmY1 If there are any issues in joining, send me a direct mail. Please do not post phone numbers on the list requesting to add in the group. Karunakar |

Hi All, I am cross posting this on 3 lists, not sure how many folks there are on each list (more on the at footer of mail). I will be sending out a couple of mails within the next few days. - Indic localization status - gives overall status, what happened in past, current activities if any, trying to get latest status on all languages for which efforts started & or are ongoing. - Standardization of terminology - what activities happened in the past & what is available and what needs to be done to augment it, and make it useful for translators. I will be covering more from a Hindi perspective since, lot of activities happened on that front earlier. If anyone has any queries on the above two points do let me know. Regards, Karunakar To give some context on the lists. kde...@kd... - List for KDE Hindi, created last year after renewed interest in contributing to KDE hindi localization. Augmented by this discussion channel - https://webchat.kde.org/#/room/#kde-hindi:kde.org indlinux-group - List for Indic localization discussions since 2000, under Indlinux project. indlinux-hindi - list for discussing foss localization into Hindi. Initially around 2001-2004 there were two lists indlinux-hindi-gnome, indlinux-hindi-kde , while archives for them still exist, lists were closed to make it a single indlinux-hindi list. At some point in 2017/18 due to some update in Sourceforge, which required re-subscribing to lists, list membership got reset, so only few remained on the lists. |

Thanks Karunakar. Actually I explored some more after posting my original question. And I was able to use the in-built xkb keyboard for inputting Marathi using the default keyboard (Devanagari inscript). It was just a matter of selecting "Indian" keyboard without any variant. Initially I was trying to find the Devanagari keyboard variant under the Indian keyboards, but later I realised that the Devanagari variant is not mentioned explicitly. I wish it was though, as it will make searching the keyboard simpler, for those who are new to GNU/Linux. Anyway, I am not using ibus anymore. I found xkb simpler. |

Namaskar! I am a newbie to this forum and linux in general. I came across the indlinux project after trying to find my way to type in Marathi on my linux machine (debian with XFCE). I was able to install the [ibus-m17n input method](https://github.com/ibus/ibus) and use Marathi inscript keyboard to type. Thanks to whoever has developed this, assuming it is someone from this group! I actually had a question regarding the layout. I followed the below link to check the layout - https://indlinux.org/wiki/index.php/InscriptLayouts#Marathi (This link is present in the About section of ibus-setup. See attached image.) As per the layout image, SHIFTed version of numeric key "3" and "4" should be" ्र" and "र्", but it comes out as "#" and "$". Rest all number keys are ok. Could you please tell why this is happening? (Is this an intended behavior or not?) Going by the below link, it seems like an intended behavior but I am unable to understand it yet. http://kbdlayout.info/KBDINDEV/shiftstates+virtualkeys/base Thanks Sanket Pandit Garade |

Hi, Possibly many must be aware of Gcompris, from its website - "GCompris is a high quality educational software suite, including a large number of activities for children aged 2 to 10." https://gcompris.net/index-en.html Gcompris is planning a 1.0 release by 17th November 2020. Last date to commit translations is 15th November. Indian language support has not been updated for some time. I compiled a brief status here - https://www.indlinux.org/wiki/index.php/Gcompris While primarily its UI translations, but a key aspect is audio also, which plays if recordings in the language are available. Please refer to above wiki page for details on what work needs to be done. Regards, Karunakar |

Hi All, November is month of LibreOffice. https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2017/10/26/coming-next-week-new-month-libreoffice/ How to get involved - http://www.libreoffice.org/community/get-involved/ As for current status on Indian languages, while UI localization happened in past, its pretty much frozen with not much activity. There are other areas of work which can be worked on like improving spellchecking, providing autocorrect, autotext, templates etc. I have set up a page to start with improving the spell checkers. Follow it more here. https://etherpad.net/p/LibreOffice-Indic-Hackathon http://www.indlinux.org/wiki/index.php/IndicSpellCheckers Plan to have a IRC meeting every weekend. First meeting will be on 4th November 2pm-4pm. This is precursor to more activities planned in near future. Join in to learn more. Date & time: 4th November 2017, 2pm-4pm IST Server: freenode.net Channel: #indlinux Regards, Karunakar |

A downside of using debian stable, some things miss past. https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xkeyboard-config/commit/?id=913af7dafaab8ff4a9ae0d1e4c4097caf4a8022d ---------- Move Indian keyboard layouts from base.xml.in to base.extras.xml.in Apparently the Indian keyboard layouts in xkeyboard-config are not very useful because of limitations in xkb. In xkb, it is not possible to output several characters when one key is pressed but that seems sometimes necessary. For Indian languages, the input methods supplied by ibus-m17n appear to be more useful, having the xkb keyboard layouts show up as well in the gnome-control centre confuse the user because of too many useless choices. <<-- Hmm, when 80-90% of indic m17n is just copy of xkb stuff! -------- Yes sure all keymaps in single file were bloating it, in which case would have been better to split language wise. A config file for each language. Seems it was later fixed after some outrage! https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101532 Karunakar |

I do know that sometime back linux foundation was lacking money and expertise. Even some of the upstream lists they host were not up for a long time and they had blamed absence of an accountant or something like that. It had even come on lwn.net at that time. सादर रवि 03/08/2016 1:54 pm को "Sudhanwa Jogalekar" <sud...@gm...> ने लिखा: > Hi, > > There is a need to use a desktop based email client instead of webmail. > User is not familiar with CLI, so pine and mutt are out of question. > > The requirement is that the users mails should/can be moved across various > operating systems/Linux distros or even various Windows versions. Hi, There is a need to use a desktop based email client instead of webmail. User is not familiar with CLI, so pine and mutt are out of question. The requirement is that the users mails should/can be moved across various operating systems/Linux distros or even various Windows versions. That too without any data loss. Can you please suggest some good email client for this purpose. Please share your experiences in this activity of usage, migration. Not to forget about the multiple accounts across various domains and the keys. Old message but look out for Scribus 1.5.3 release. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: "Christoph Schäfer" <chr...@gm...> Date: Wed, May 18, 2016 at 2:21 AM Subject: [scribus] Scribus 1.5.2 released To: Private Scribus Development List <scr...@li...>, Scribus User Mailing List <sc...@li...>, Scribus Development Mailing List <scr...@li...>, Create ML <cr...@li...> The Scribus Team is very pleased to announce the release of the development version Scribus 1.5.2, which is another major step onto the next fully-featured version 1.6.0. In terms of stability, 1.5.2 can be already be regarded as robust. The Scribus Team encourages the wide-spread use and testing of version 1.5.2 in as many environments as possible. User feedback will help us to release a rock-solid version 1.6.0. Most Important Changes ====================== - The text layout engine has been rewritten from scratch in preparation for support of complex scripts such as Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese and Hindi coming in Scribus 1.5.3 and later. We are more than grateful for the magnificent work that the Oman House of Open Source Technology team, led by Khaled Hosny, completed. - Within the context of the text layout system rewrite, some new text features introduced with the 1.5.0 release have been stabilized and improved. - Improvements to the canvas rendering on Hi-DPI screens. - The Autosave and File Recovery system has seen large improvements and is now highly configurable. - The Resource Manager, as well as the official Scribus Resources pool have been expanded significantly, because Scribus 1.5.2 provides direct access to the more than 300 (mostly commercial) color palettes of the Open Colour Systems Collection in the LAB color space. We would like to thank dtp studio oldenburg and the initiative freieFarbe for making these color palettes available under a CC license. The Resource Manager user interface has received some enhancements. - The Resource Manager now verifies resource downloads from Scribus servers with SHA256 checksums. A complete changelog is available here: https://bugs.scribus.net/view_all_bug_page.php?filter=161020 A full data sheet (PDF) is available here: https://wiki.scribus.net/wiki/images/9/93/Scribus-specs-152.pdf Caveats ======= - Please note that the online help system hasn't been updated yet, and it probably be won't be until the final release of Scribus 1.6.0. However, with Scribus 1.5.2, Scribus now supports downloading of the online help manual and as this work is completed within Scribus 1.5.3, we will decouple the release of the help manual from the main application which will allow more regular updates to the help system. - Some newly introduced features since 1.5.0, like footnotes, tables, ordered/un-ordered lists are "program-stable", i.e., they won't crash Scribus 1.5.1, but not "feature-stable", which means they may sometimes not work as expected for the time being. - There will be more wide sweeping changes coming in 1.5.3 relating to text system updates for the complex language system support. People using Scribus 1.5.1 or 1.5.2 should ensure they keep document backups and the old versions installed prior to testing 1.5.3.svn and the 1.5.3 release when it arrives. Dependencies ============ - Qt 5.3 or higher is now required - cairo 1.14 or higher is now required - Other dependencies will be reviewed in 1.5.3 Primary Download Locations ========================== - Installation packages for Windows, Mac OS X, a Linux AppImage and the source code are available here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/scribus/files/scribus-devel/1.5.2/ - Fedora and CentOS RPMs: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/mrdocs - OpenSUSE, SLED, and SLES RPMs: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/mrdocs - Packaging for other Linux distributions, *BSD, Solaris and OpenIndiana is beyond our influence. We recommend updating the respective repository data on a regular basis. Download Verification ===================== Please visit the official announcement on https://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/1.5.2_Release for Sha256 and Sha1 checksums. Credits ======= The Scribus Team would like to thank Anduin.net and Modirum for their continued hosting of all of the Scribus websites. We are grateful to the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie and Linux New Media (Germany) for sponsoring. The Scribus Team is also honored to have Resene Colours (New Zealand), dtp studio Oldenburg (Germany), Scientific Illustration Services Corp. (USA), the Newspaper Association of America (USA), Software Consulting Services (USA) and freieFarbe (Germany) as Special Supporters and donors of color palettes and other content since the 1.4.x release, just like we are grateful to the owner of Vector Portal for the permission to distribute some of his work as Scribus Templates. Porting Scribus to OS/2 and eComStation is being supported by Mensys BV (The Netherlands) and Serenity Systems (USA). Finally, the Scribus Team would like to thank the many end users, translators, testers and contributors who helped us with this release.
