IBM unveils Linux-based desktop June 03, 2003 http://www.zdnetindia.com/news/national/stories/nsl,82965.html In what may be the first testimony by a hardware vendor in India of its backing for the Linux open source software, the world's largest infotech company IBM Corporation today announced the launch of its Linux desktop in India - IBM NetVista A30, priced at Rs 39,900. The NetVista A30 Linux desktop, targeted at the small and medium business and home offices, will be launched in non-metros such as Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Nagpur, Bhopal and Indore. It is for the first time that a commercial desktop vendor has introduced an entry-level desktop that is certified on Linux. The NetVista A30 Linux desktop comes with a 3-year hardware warranty and would be sold through IBM's network of business partners. Alok Ohrie, vice-president, personal computing division, IBM India, said, "The Linux desktop aims to support the business requirements of the small office and home office and SME segments in non-metros."
