Two recent meetings were held on the subject of Indic Computing. 1) On 28th May, 2003, a group of Indiccers met informally at Delhi at the India Habitat Centre to discuss Indic Computing issues. As a result of this meeting, we expect closer coordination on developing OTF fonts. Osama and Sanjay of 4Cplus said that they would release OTF fonts under GPL within the next two months and Niyam has agreed to help them. Vijay will send a synopsis of this meeting across. 2) On 24th May, Prof. Jitendra Shah and I organized a meeting at Prof. Shah's residence in Mumbai. The meet titled "The Future of Marathi in the Information Age" attracted a very good response. Despite the short notice, 12 people from different disciplines (Marathi cultural organizations, linguists, technologists, and free/open source software activists) attended the meeting organized by Prof. Jitendra Shah and Venkatesh Hariharan. Prof. Jitendra Shah's excellent contacts in the world of Marathi literature and information technology were a priceless help in bringing this eclectic, diverse bunch together. In addition the Shah family (Jitendra Shah, his wife and two sons) were excellent hosts for the meeting which was held at their residence. A big thanks is in order from the group to Mr. Shah and family for the warm atmosphere in which the meeting was held.
