Sagar (The Sea) is the fifth font set of the Mukta Bangla Fonts family, and has been designed from the glyphs (letters) created by Mr Omi Azad from Bangladesh. Sayamindu Dasgupta, a developer of the project re-encoded the original TrueType font submitted by Mr Azad, and this is the first font of the Mukta Bangla Fonts Project which takes advantage of the "template system" designed by Deepayan Sarcar. (who is also a developer in the project.) This is also the first font of the project to be developed using completely Free tools. The font can be downloaded from[32]http://www.nongnu.org/freebangfont/downloads.html About the Mukta Bangla Fonts Project The Mukta (Free) Bangla Fonts Project is a completely volunteer run effort to provide Free/Open Source OpenType fonts for the Bangla (Bengali) language. It has untill now released five distinct font sets. It is a sub project of the "Ankur - Bengali in Free/Libre/Open Source Software Project", and is actively involved in the Bengali localization process. It also offers a place for discussions on matters related to Bengali language computing, especially on Unicode and OpenType issues. About OpenType Fonts The OpenType font standard is a new standard proposed by Microsoft and Adobe, and fonts following the OpenType standard are extensively used in Indic localization projects. OpenType fonts have certain features which make the handling of the large number of conjuncts present in Indic scripts much easier. |
