Hi guys,

All those who wanted to test out IndLinux can now
rejoice. I have with me, v 0.37 of Indlinux, codenamed
"Milan".

A bit a this and that...

Indlinux (http://www.indlinux.org) is an ongoing
effort to indianise the GNU/linux operating system.
The aim is to take GNU/Linux to the common man, who
does not necessarily know English. People should be
able to use computers through their own native
language, and so the IndLinux project aims at
providing support for all the 18 official indian
languages.

I've picked up the above mentioned CD from Pune, and
it  patches against the stock Red HAt 8.0 version. If
you have Red Hat 8.0, you can use Milan to get a feel
of what the entire thiing is. As of now, the
translation effort is 37% complete and so ther version
is 0.37.

Among other things, you can see most of the system
menus and stuff in HIndi, many apps are also having
hindi support and you can even send mail, and chat in
hindi.

Indlinux currently uses GNOME 2, and works out of the
box on Red Hat 8.0. I've heard someone say that it
works with Mandrake 9.0 too, but I am not sure...

In the meantime, I am facing some problems with makinf
RH 8.0 workiong on my computer, so in my spare time, I
am trying to ge IndLinux to work with my Debian 3.0
system.

Those who want the IndLinux CD, can take it from me
for Rs.15

After taking a look at v 0.37, I am eagerly awaiting
the day when v 1.0 will be out. I'm sure you'll feel
teh same way. All in all, this is a _fantastic_
project and I invite all of you to take a look.
