Hi list! Long time. I'm trying to install the shideva font which is available in http://home.t-online.de/home/E.Tremel/Hindi/ . Here's my current setup: Redhat 7.1 with indix. To install indix, I followed the instructions in http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Indic-Fonts-HOWTO/ , it's been working fine, except that I had to add the line export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/X11R6/lib in my .bash_profile so that libIndic.so.1 is picked up when I startx. Raghu font is installed properly. What I'm trying to do now: Install shideva font as an alternative to raghu. Now I downloaded the ttf file, called LruLruushiDeva.ttf and moved it to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType. The size is almost double(285584) of raghu(133708). Now I cd to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType and run mkfontdir which is successful. Then I run xset fp rehash This is the error: Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key xset: unable to open display ":0.0" This happens when I'm trying to xset withing gnome using a terminal session. If I'm outside gnome, on the command prompt, xset fp rehash gives the error xset: unable to open display "" Googling for this error gave me an indication that it was because Load "freetype" statement should be present in the XF86Config-4 file, under the modules section, which is already there(Remember I have already installed raghu successfully). Since I didn't touch any of the config files since then, I suspect that there is some env variable missing or some changes are needed in the path. Can anyone help? It will be a big relief.
