I just did a clean make, install and sample run of
itrans 5.3 from sources on my freeBSD system without
any problems. It runs perfectly fine. So, there is
no need to have a separate 'port' of itrans for 
freeBSD hanging around somewhere. The main source
is perfectly portable (except that malloc.h usage
is deprecated and you are recommended to use stdlib.h
instead).
