v77
There is a newer version of this page. You can find it here.

This software is translated in french, spanish, german, swedish, russian and simplified chinese.
However, parts that belong to the driver and command line tools are (and will remain) english only.

The full package supports the following image file formats (non exhaustive list):
- vhd, vdi and vmdk (static, dynamic and vmdk multipart)
- raw formats (img, ima, raw, vfd...)
- iso, nrg, bin (read-only, and some bin files only)
- dmg, sdi (some versions only)
Some other formats may work but require tests, and the non Windows file systems may need additionnal drivers.

Known issues:

  • Dynamic ramdisks do not work properly when they are mounted on a folder instead of a drive letter, and if you don't use the TRIM commands (TRIM commands are used by default with NTFS on Windows 7 and later).

  • Some softwares are incompatible with ImDisk volumes. This comes from the driver that creates only simple volumes that are not handled by the disk manager. This will not be fixed.

Installer switches:

/silent
Silent installation. Error messages and reboot prompt are still displayed.
/fullsilent
Silent installation, without error message or prompt.
/installfolder:"path"
Set the installation folder.
/lang:name
Bypass automatic language detection. 'name' is one of the available languages.
/silentuninstall
Silent uninstallation. Driver (and therefore all existing virtual disk) and parameters are removed. This switch can also be passed to config.exe.

Installation tips:

The installer handles the case where the driver has been installed alone.
A new version of the driver, downloaded here, can also be installed after the Toolkit. However, context menus can be changed. To restore them, go to the General Settings panel (see the shortcut in the ImDisk folder in the Windows Start Menu, or directly start config.exe in the installation folder), check "Enable entries in context menus" and "Request administrator rights in Explorer", and then click the OK button.

The installer is able to recreate all the required services and all the ramdisks if the configuration is written to the registry.
To get the required registry values, go to the General Settings panel and click on the "Save Parameters..." button.

Want to donate? The author of the ImDisk driver, on which is based ImDisk Toolkit, has now to face to incredibly expensive certificates required by the new driver signing policy of Microsoft.
So, if you want to ensure that ImDisk Toolkit continues to use a signed driver, please donate to him.
