It took me a minute to figure out why DB was getting a permission denied error when starting DBServer. I'd suggest changing this executable to either accepts a password as a commandline option, or interactively if the user forget to use the correct switch. Having it compiled into the executable if not very flexible.

    As a third option, which really helps enable iPDC to being ready to deploy, I'd suggest also having it read a file like /etc/iPDC/historian.config upon start up. I'd make it look first for the commandline switch (say -p), then have it look for /etc/iPDC/historian.config, then if all else fails, prompt the user for a password on the command prompt (which also includes a note that they can configure it in /etc).
