I'm still here, and although the iiscfg.pl script could use some work, it still functions on IIS 4, 5 & 6 (which is brand-new). I might modify it to change the "follow => 1" entries in the previewmaker scripts automatically, or we could change previewmaker to detect the platform. Also, the Windows documentation could use an update. Many of the modules that were once very hard to get and compile for windows are now included with Perl, so installation is much easier now. In initial tests, beta2 seems to work well. It actually seems a bit faster, at least for me. I have it running on Windows Server 2003, IIS6, and ActivePerl 5.8. Both Jeff McDonald's Zip Upload Support, as well as Duncan Sargeant's EXIF Rotation support have been committed to CVS and everything tagged as 0-83b2 (second beta). I've also uploaded a new b3 tar file. Couple of notes: - As I don't have any need to use the EXIF Rotation support, I'd like for others to test this for me. - I modified Jeff's patch slightly to add the support as an optional preference. By default this preference is turned off. If you want to upload a Zipped archive, you need to turn it on first. If you happen to upload a zipped file with the preference off, you'll get an error message with a link to the preferences to go turn it on. I've tested it locally, and it works for me. Jeff, when your boys leave you alone, could you test drive it for me? I'm also not paying much attention to the secondary scripts at the moment: iiscfg.pl and updater.pl. If anyone is still running anything less than 0.711, I suggest upgrading. As for the IIS script, I need to contact Thomas Keegan and see about continuing support. I don't work with Win32 web servers. -- W | I haven't lost my mind; it's backed up on tape somewhere. +-------------------------------------------------------------------- Ashley M. Hi, Attached is the zip patch and a new Makefile for the ids-delegates that includes a new delegate Archive::Zip. The patch assumes delegates are in ids/lib. This has been tested with RH 9 and perl 5.8.0. Note to perl 5.8.0 users: If the OS you are using it set up for Unicode (RH 8 and 9) some modules are not Unicode ready. For some reason the Makefile.PL supplied with Archive::Zip fails with RH 9 (most likely 8 too). The attached Makefile fixes this by setting LANG to a sane value. For those installing Archive::Zip by hand just set the LANG environment variable to something that doesn't have UTF-8. This is one of the reasons why it took me so long to re-submit, plus my twin 4.5 month boys keeping me busy. Any questions feel free to ask. -- Jeff Macdonald <jef...@vi...> Into birding? Attached is a shell script to set proper directory permissions for suexec usage and diffs against admin/index.cgi and preferences/index.cgi (patch was created from the admin directory). Please test out. Ashley asked for a README explaining installation of CPAN modules in a non /usr location. I will submit that sometime soon. On another note, does anyone else get these warnings? Commenting out the use Carp line seems to resolve the warnings. My patch doesn't include that change. Installing CPAN modules in a location outside of the main perl tree is usually done like so: 1) wget cpan-module 2) untar it 3) cd to cpan module directory created by tar 4) perl Makefile.PL PREFIX=/path/to/writable_dir/lib LIB=/path/to/writable_dir/lib (all on one line) 5) make && make test && make install 6) modify code it include /path/to/writable_dir/lib example: use lib qw(/path/to_writable_dir/lib) My posting yesterday with the subject "makefile to install delegates" touches on this. Try this: download the 1.11 version from here http://search.cpan.org/author/GAAS/Image-Info-1.11/ unpack it to , lets say, ~you/image_info/lib/Image/Info.pm". replace in every IDS module the string "use Image::Info" for "require /home/you/image_info/lib/ Should make your IDS use the right version of Image::Info without making your ISP downgrade it. Hi, While I was redoing my development environment and testing out ids-beta-0-83b1 on Redhat Linux 9 I put together a Makefile to install the delegates. I needed to add IO-String for a delegate. The attached Makefile would be part of the ids-delegates directory. It assumes that IO-String-1.02 tar file also exists in ids-delegates. Also attached is a small patch against index.cgi. I'm currently having problems with the admin directory (I'm running suexec, so I suspect it's there) so I don't have workable patches there yet. Sample usage of the makefile: make IDS=/path/to/ids # this makes the perl modules make IDS=/path/to/ids install # this installs the perl modules Feedback wanted. Once I figure out my admin problems I plan to re-submit the ZIP patch. Oh, it may be a good idea to also tag the delegates with the same tag of the main ids tag of which those delegates have been tested against. -- Jeff Macdonald <jef...@vi...> Into birding? Hello all, I am trying to get IDS installed on web server at an ISP with no luck. ImageMagick-5.4.3.11 and IDS-0.82 are installed. Both ids/index.cgi and ids/admin/index.cgi causes a Internal Server Error from a browser. The ids/admin/preferences.cgi works fine though. Running them from a bash prompt gives: bash-2.05a$ perl index.cgi perl: constitute.c:2015: ReadImage: Assertion `image_info->signature == 0xabacadab' failed. Aborted (core dumped) I tried to google my way out of this but nothing seemed to apply. Any thoughts? Thanks Tom |

Hi, I originally mailed this to Ashley as per the website. I didn't get a reply - perhaps he no longer checks that email address, and ids-devel looks like a better place to post this anyway. I hope some of you have use for this patch, which adds support for the EXIF orientation tag in images. Its the dumb way to do it, as it generates a cached copy of every image in the original dimensions, regardless of whether it required rotation or not. But it might be of use. I'm not subscribed so please cc any replies. regards ,dunc |

I've rolled out 0.83b1 which contains the backlog of patches I received over the last 3 months or so. I've also cleaned up the release page on SourceForge. At the moment, all you can get is versions 0.711, 0.82, or 0.83b1 (the list used to contain everything all the way up to 0.1.) The beta package does not contain the Image::Info delegate in the tarball, the 0.82 tarball does - future releases won't have it included, instead I'll stick stuff like that in the delegates packages (if you look on SF's page you'll understand what I mean.) As for CVS, that will always contains the bleeding edge code (and may not always work right out of the box.) Beta tarballs are created from CVS as well. If someone feels it's necessary to split CVS into multiple modules (a stable and a beta), please let me know. Otherwise I will continue to release beta tarballs from CVS, and stable tarballs once the beta one gets driven into the ground. Someone posted on SF about a zip archive upload hack they made. If that person could generate a patch against the latest 0.82 and send that in, I'd appreciate it. -- W | I haven't lost my mind; it's backed up on tape somewhere. +-------------------------------------------------------------------- Ashley M.
