However, the "reply to this email" part works, and, after replying to that automated email I seem to have joined the new list. I did not really notice that option before reading your email. Thank you. I would prefer for the first option in the automated email, about "reply to this email", to be more visible, and the second option to have a note about "google account owners only", but, anyways, it works.
