Yes I am getting garbled output. Will try using Xming and use "xterm -u8" to set UTF-8 terminal. I hope this will work.

This tells you that your shell is using UTF-8, but it doesn't actually tell you anything about what your terminal is using. Markus suspects that your terminal isn't using UTF-8 and a simple way to check whether it is or not is this command line:

/bin/echo -e "\0320\0224\0320\0260\0041"

If your terminal handles UTF-8 correctly, then that command line will print the following:

Да!

If it prints something else, then your terminal isn't handling UTF-8 correctly (probably because it's set to use some other character encoding).
