I have been affected by a bug in Java's iso-2022-jp support. Well, really it's a Windows (Outlook) bug. From the bug report: "The root cause of the problem is that the Windows platforms use Code Page 932 which is incompatible with the JIS standard (JIS X 0208:1997) in two ways. 1) It added more characters to the reserved space of JIS X 0208. 2) Windows uses their own JIS X 0208 to Unicode mappings for several characters." http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6173388 In Java 1.6, the charset x-windows-iso2022jp has been added, which fixes the problem. I'm stuck with Java 1.5, so I was wondering if icu4j can help?
