I have Ubuntu 7.04, iburst usb modem (kernel 2.6.20)
Short synopsis:
Removal of usb-modem gives kernel errors, kernel errors prohibits systen shutdown/restart
Removal and re-insertion doesn't work
Booting up with inserted modem cannot go on the internet
Re-occurring bug method:
When I restart my system with the modem plugged in, the ppp0 interface won't come back on with "pon dsl-provider".
If I remove the usb-modem , I get all sorts of kernel errors - like cannot use interface name ib0, cannot find it etc. Re-inserting it is just plain useless, the error messages just keeps on coming
When I then try to restart my system again,it won't because it is still stuck with the "cannot find interface ib0" non-sense. I have to brute-force power-off.
After removing the modem and letting the system to start-up back again, plugging in the modem and "pon dsl-provider" again gives the error "network not started". Doing a "/etc/init.d/networking restart" and then "pon dsl-provider" would put me back on the net again.
Thanks though for the great work.

this looks like the same bug I reported earlier ... USB driver does not play nice with 2.6.20 kernel on Ubuntu
