Yes, it seems both your default settings in
/usr/local/share/hydrogen/data and the GMkit in
$HOME/.hydrogen/data/drumkits/GMkit/drumkit.xml are not valid.

This, unfortunately, does happen for older versions of these files.
Could you move them to a temporary place as a backup and install the new
versions of both by compiling and installing a new (the newest) version
of Hydrogen from source?
