Reports Inbox locked when retrieving mail!

I get the following message when retrieving mail:

"The mailbox
~/Library/Mail/HTTPMail-name@hotmail.com/Inbox.mbox
is currently locked by username on host
systemname.local. If you open a mailbox that already
is in use, you may damage its contents."

with buttons "open read-only", "quit" and "open". If
I select "open read-only" or "open" seems to download
but i'm just waiting for something to get trashed. The
above message ALWAYS appears.

(I am using 10.3.2)

  I've had quite a few people get this problem.
  If you make a backup copy of any messages you want to keep, then delete and recreate the account it usually goes away.
  The really annoying thing about this one is that I can't reproduce it here.
