I looked into this at one point and couldn't find a definitive definition of the file protocol. Experimentations shows that different browsers and different platforms seem to use slightly different syntax for file urls. A file url generated by one browser likely won't work in another browser. If someone could point me at an RFC or something equivilent that describes the file protocol in detail (for all platforms/browsers) then I'd be willing to add support for this. -- Mike Bowler Principal, Gargoyle Software Inc. What is the difference between HtmlButton and HtmlInputButton? How come HtmlInputButton does not expose the click() method? Is HtmlInput.setValueAttribute supposed to trigger the onChange event handler for form inputs? It doesn't seem to do so and I was wondering if this was intended behavior. If it is supposed to, I'll follow up with a code sample and maybe you can tell me where I am going wrong. Thanks. Mark |

Usually, in > other testing X-Unit testing frameworks, you do something like: Perhaps the word "Unit" in HtmlUnit is confusing the issue. This isn't a generic unit testing framework like JUnit. It's a tool that lets you access your web application and interact with it. You still need something like JUnit to write your tests in. Within those tests, you can use HtmlUnit to access your web application. Does this help? -- Mike Bowler Principal, Gargoyle Software Inc. Voice: (416) 822-0973 | Email : mb...@Ga... Hi there - I was wondering if anyone has any example code for how to set up TestCases and how to run TestSuites using HTML-Unit. Usually, in other testing X-Unit testing frameworks, you do something like: class MyTestCase extends TestCase { public void testMyTest1() { if (errorCheckFails) { this.fail("test failed"); } } public static void main() { TestSuite suite = new TestSuite(); suite.add(new MyTestCase()); suite.run(); } } But I havent found any example code on the web page for doing this...anyone care to post a snippet to the list? Also, is there any web or GUI interface for HTML-Unit so you can click on a "Run" button and see pretty green lights when everything works? -Paul |

For normal use, you shouldn't need to call executeJavaScriptIfPossible at all. It's there if you really need it but the handlers are supposed to be called automatically. The HtmlSelect will execute the onchange handler on changes. What is the problem you're seeing. > BTW: The documentation of that method confused me a little bit. The documentation has been fixed to reflect this. FWIW, the javascript support will only work if javascript is enabled. If javascript isn't working at all then make sure that js.jar is in your classpath and that you haven't disabled javascript support in the WebClient. -- Mike Bowler Principal, Gargoyle Software Inc. Hi everybody, I don't understand the approach on testing JS with HtmlUnit. Should it work transparently or do I have to execute JS-code explicit? For example I have select form element and a JS-function which will click the submit-button belonging to the form, when an option in mentioned select-element is choosed. How is HtmlUnit with JS enabled supposed to behave? Should I simply get a new page when changing the option in the select-element? (Ok, that already didn't work ;) Or do I have to call the JS-functions by myself using HtmlPage.executeJavaScriptIfPossible()? BTW: The documentation of that method confused me a little bit. It says in its signature, that it will return a ScriptResult, but it says in the description below, that it will return a Page. I couldn't try it out yet, but I'm curious what would gonna happen ;) kind regards Thomas Berlin |

Once in the debug statement and once in the equals(). This would cause you to skip every other anchor. Is this the problem you're seeing? -- Mike Bowler Principal, Gargoyle Software Inc. Hi again, it seems to me, that the method HtmlPage.getAnchors() does not return all anchors that are actually available in the page. Maybe I made a bad mistake in my code, but I don't think so ;) Actually my code is based on a piece of code that was posted here earlier. That is my version: private HtmlAnchor getHtmlAnchor(String label) { List returnedAnchors = _page.getAnchors(); Iterator i = returnedAnchors.iterator(); HtmlAnchor anchor = null; while(i.hasNext()) { //some debug output _logger.displayProgressInfo("DebugInfo: " + ((HtmlAnchor)i.next()).toString()); if (label.equals(((HtmlAnchor)i.next()).asText())) { anchor = (HtmlAnchor)i.next(); } } return anchor; } And this is the HTML-Code I tested with: <html> <head> <title>Link Test Page</title> </head> <body> Here are some Links! <a href="blubb">Blubb</a> <a href="http://www.heise.de" target="_blank">Heise Ticker</a> <a href="mailto:th...@cy..." title="Mail to Thomas">E-Mail</a> </body> </html> HtmlPage.getAnchors() returns only 2 of these 3 given anchors. In other samples I have seen much worse variations. I use HmtlUnit 1.1 with updated commons-httpclient (Alpha 2 I think). kind regards, Thomas Berlin |

I get the same messages when I did not enable > redirecting within the webclient. It's an annoyance that I haven't figured out how to fix yet. For a variety of reasons, I handle the redirection logic inside HtmlUnit rather than letting commons-httpclient handle it for me. It's commons-httpclient that is displaying that message because I have explicitly disabled its redirection support. I'd like to filter out that warning message but haven't figured out a clean way of doing it. -- Mike Bowler Principal, Gargoyle Software Inc. Voice: (416) 822-0973 | Email : mb...@Ga... Any cookies sent down from the server will be returned on the next request so session cookies should certainly be working. What version of HtmlUnit are you using? The cookie support is actually provided by commons-httpclient so you might want to try using a newer version of that - "alpha3" is the latest release. http://www.ibiblio.org/maven/commons-httpclient/jars/ There have been a number of problems reported that seem to be a problem with the version of commons-httpclient that I bundled with HtmlUnit 1.1. Hi there - Thanks for the great work on HTML-Unit, this is truly an exceptional software library. I was just trying it out for the first time, and trying to make it login to the web site I am developing. However, it doesnt look like cookies are supported in the WebClient class - is this true, or have I missed something? The pages I am testing rely almost completely on a session cookie in the browser, so it just keeps giving me back the login screen even after I have submitted the form. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Paul |

Hi, just a small question concerning redirects: When I enable my webclient to follow redirects, like this: webClient.setRedirectEnabled(true); I still get error messages like this: 26.02.2003 16:07:05 org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpMethodBase processRedirectResponse INFO: Redirect requested but followRedirects is disabled Does this mean anything? I get the same messages when I did not enable redirecting within the webclient. kind regards, Thomas Bartz Berlin |

I don't see the error when I access form > elements in the handler using "document.myform" syntax. Fixed. The problem was my misunderstanding of what object is currently in scope during the onclick handling. Previously, the Window was always in scope for the various handlers (onclick, onsubmit etc). I've changed it so that the appropriate control is in scope instead. -- Mike Bowler Principal, Gargoyle Software Inc. Voice: (416) 822-0973 | Email : mb...@Ga... I get an error when HtmlSelect.setSelectedAttribute() triggers an onChange event handler that uses "this.form" syntax to pass a form object to the handler. I don't see the error when I access form elements in the handler using "document.myform" syntax. Question 1: Is something incorrect in my HTML/JavaScript? Question2: When I use the command line "java Test6 hello", why don't I see " text1 value = MO" as output? Thanks. It's newer than the version I shipped in HtmlUnit 1.1 and appears to be fairly stable. http://www.ibiblio.org/maven/commons-httpclient/jars/commons-httpclient-2.0-alpha2.jar -- Mike Bowler Principal, Gargoyle Software Inc.
