[Hsqldb-user] java.sql.SQLException: The database is already in use by another process

I know that this has been asked before but while scrolling through the
mailing-list I saw no response and since there is no search capabilities
I thought I would throw it out again.

I am using HSQLDB 1.7.1 in standalone mode and getting a
java.sql.SQLException: The database is already in use by another
process.  This is occurring when I run a set of JUnit tests through the
BatchTest function of Ant.  It runs the first test fine but chokes on
the second.  There is only one connection object open for the app and it
stays open while the app is up.

Anyone seen this before?  I noticed in the Ant code that each test was
being executed using a separate ClassLoader, does the DB think that this
is a different process?
