The summary says it all. I'm using SuSE 9.3 with kernel
2.6.11.4 and KDE 3.4.2 (just in case you need those
things). If this is not a bug, then which user
permissions should I arrange for my regular user?
This is not a bug of hptalx. Depending on your OS you'll have to assign proper permissions to e.g. /dev/ttyUSB*. For most modern Linuxes, see "udev rules" and possibly "console.perms" for this.
