Hi all, I am using Mandriva Linux 2006 (kernel 2.6.12-12mdk) and drivers/support packages hplib_model_data-0.9.4-6mdk, hpoj-0.91-8mdk, hplib_hpijs-0.9.4-6mdk. When printing docs in Normal mode (color ink) everything goes ok. When changing it to a draft quality (gray scale) the printing is so weak that it is impossible to read, like it has impressed nothing. It does not matter if the color is changed back to Normal, it continues 'not to print'. It is necessary to reboot the machine. Can you help. Thanks in advance. PS: The printer was bought last year but just this last days I have been able to put it to work. Could has any relation with this period without usingit? |

This is an interesting question. It should work with an original HP built-in network card for exactly the particular model (something which HP sometimes calls "LIO") if the model is listed as "Network(1): Yes" at http://hplip.sourceforge.net/supported_devices/inkjet_aio.html which reads: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Network support indicates built-in ethernet and/or wireless networking. Alternatively, many devices may be operated on the network using an external JetDirect print server. Not all network configurations are supported. Please refer to the HPLIP FAQs for more information. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ and http://hplip.sourceforge.net/faqs.html reads ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Question: Does HPLIP support networked printers? Answer: Yes, HPLIP supports printers that are directly network connected (via a built-in Ethernet port) or connected to a network via a JetDirect. Printers that are shared via a Windows share and SAMBA are not supported (you can, however, print to devices shared with SAMBA using CUPS, the smb: backend and HPIJS). Printers that are shared via CUPS from another Linux PC on a network are supported by HPIJS (but not HPLIP). Status information for printers shared in this way is not available. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ but I don't find an explicite statement regarding "scanning" via built-in HP ethernet port or via HP JetDirect printserver box or via any non-HP printserver box. I don't know, if a USB-only HP all-in-one device would work via any kind of external printserver box. I would appreciate some info from HP regarding printers and all-in-one devices with external non-JetDirect print server boxes and some information which exact devices do not belong to the class of "many devices may be operated on the network using an external JetDirect print server". After all the print server should do nothing more than directing everything it gets to the printer. However the US Robotics support told me that the printer needs to support PCL5. All I do is to print to http://192.168.1.1:1631/printers/hp via IPP. It would probably require a firmware change in the router to make it working. > To make the extra functions of HPLIP (scanning, ink level check, ...) > working via an external print server, you will probably need an original > HP JetDirect box. Correct. All bidirectional features won't work (although I see no strict reason why they could not work if the firmware of the router would allow traffic in both directions). However that's not a big problem since I rarely use these features and if I need them I can always locally connect a PC to the printer. Another question: Assuming I had a JetDirect print server, could I just connect it to the router via Ethernet cable and then print from the PCs on the local network? Jens |

Hi, recently I bought a new WLAN router, which has an integrated printserver (US Robotics USR029108). The printserver simply does not work although everything else is normal, i.e. no error messages or strange behaviour. After some discussions with the US Robotics support they suppose that the problem is that the printer (a HP OfficeJet G85) only supports PLC3, but the printserver needs support for PLC5. Is there anything I can do about that, i.e. are there any updates for the printer? Or is there any other solution? I'd be glad to get some help, because I didn't actually find a lot of useful information about this topic, so I thought it might be a good idea to ask the experts. :-) Currently I use hpoj 0.91 on Debian 3.1 and have no printing problems except the one described above. (I know that there is hplip, but as long as the printserver does not work I still use the parallel port.) Jens |

I have this model, and i've experienced that when scanning something, I see some white artifacts and the detail isn't great at all. furthermore, i seem only to be able to scan until 600dpi , while i was under the impression that this model was able to scan at 2400dpi. i have scanned stuff, but i cannot add it as attachment, since the mail would be too large... do you have any idea how to improve the image? maybe some extra parameters in the config files? |

I am running hpoj 0.91-9 with hpijs 2.1.7 on a Cups server on Debian Sarge. I'm finding the printing to be unreliable at best. At the moment, I'm trying to print a postscript reduction of a powerpoint presentation. I managed to get the first 6 pages to print with an lpr command. Then it printed a page with a few lines of garbage at the top and then a lot of blank pages. I've tried printing pdf and ps forms of this document with no more success. I've tried using ptal-print directly from the machine on which the printer is running and it prints the first page followed by the page with the lines of garbage and then blank pages. I can't find any error log in the cups logs files and I can't find any hpoj log files at all - are there any? Could this be something wrong with the file itself? Any suggestions, in that case? Any help gratefully received, Peter -- P.S...@uc... http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/staff/P.Saffrey/ Beacon Project http://www.grid.ucl.ac.uk/biobeacon/ |

Hi all I have just upgraded my system to FC4 because I started to get problems with some programs that use python and hope that the upgrade from FC3 would help. NO SUCH LUCK!! below is the error I get if I try to run the hplip toolbox program. [laurence@athlon ~]$ hp-toolbox Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/bin/hp-toolbox", line 41, in ? import base.async_qt as async File "/usr/local/share/hplip/base/async_qt.py", line 85, in ? from qt import * ImportError: No module named qt question now is where has it gone? how do I get it back? I think it should be part of PyQt, but that is supposed to be installed. it used to work fine up to a couple of weeks ago ANY hints would be useful TIA Laurence |

Also with "--disable-network-build" libnetsnmp is no longer required at configure/compile time. -dave |

Hello, if HPLIP is compiled with "--disable-network-build", there is no longer "network support". But what exactly does this mean? I assume the following: 1. No CUPS DeviceURI like "hp:/net/..." will work, but network printers can still be used with HPIJS via the generic CUPS backends "socket" and/or "lpd". 2. No SANE device ID like "hpaio:/net/..." will work, therefore there is no network scanner support at all. 3. No device status and no device maintenance via hp-toolbox neither for network printers nor for network scanners. Is this list complete or did I miss something? Using kubuntu, my psc-1315 will scan with gimp and print text from other applications, but it won't print from gimp. Setup seems to not go right. In gimp printer setup, printer name is psc1315, but printer model always says "Postscript Level 2." When I click on "setup printer' I have a choice of many HP printers, but none are psc, just deskjet and lazerjet. If I browse and enter /etc/cups/ppd/hp1315.ppd where it asks for a ppd file, it never prints. Any help appreciated, bruce |

They wrote a special filter = not=20 to show all the files, and there is no way to do basic things. Silly. On Windows XP. I can access the flashcard on the network. On my Mandriva box, I can see it with "smb:/" in Konqueror, but cannot acce= ss=20 inside because I am asked a password. Strange. (On Windows Me, this device seems to be impossible to install !) HI I am using Ubuntu 5.10 which has HPLIP. My printing works fine, but when I scan with Xsane, the image is cropped to about 70%. Does anyone have any ideas? David |
