a typo, a fix and 2 requests

For version 2.1.3
1) In General Preferences, appearence should be appearance.
2) Can you make the font size adjustable in 'All Possible Ways'? I would prefer a slightly larger font size than the default.
3) In All Possible Ways, for Almost Locked Set XZ, the explanation does not include the Z value. It shows " Z= => " [I think you may already know this].
4) It would be helpful if 'All Possible Ways' separated the ALS XZ into the 'easiest' [2 ALS each with 2 cells and 3 candidates] and then some ordering of the harder ones. Not sure how to do the ordering though.
1) Thank you!
2) In the current beta version you can adjust the font size for the whole program. Have you tried that already?
3) ALS-XZ: Already fixed for next release
4) Sort order for steps has caused me a lot of trouble after the relase of Java 7, so I wont touch it again until absolutely necessary
I have switched to 2.2.0. I have not noticed a sluggish ALS search lately. It may be that I kept a current session of HoDoKu open for too long. Closing and then restarting seems to matter. I am now beginning to find short XY-Chains and the easiest ALS XZ and Sue de Coq, thanks to your great software. I continue to be pleased with my 'steady' progress. :) Nothing seems to be hopeless. Right now, I will peek inside the 'All Possible Steps' lists to see if there are short/easy ones. I try not to look at the 'answers' just their length while peeking.
I am currently reworking the complete chaining code for release 2.3 and I will try to improve the presentation in the all steps panel.
I have been looking at 2.20 beta but I returned to 2.1.3 because 'Searching ALS' is even slower on 2.20 [so far I can see 2.20_90]. I continue to make little steps of improvement. Now I can find the Basic Sue De Coq and I can occasionally find the slightly harder ones involving more than four cells. The Practicing Mode [set to Sue De Coq] is excellent for this. I have taken some steps to begin searches for ALS-XZ. Still just beginning. I am still hopeless finding Chains. I can occasionally find Turbot Fish and Remote Pairs because there are some cues.
Searching ALS is much slower (in "all steps" only), because the search is now bidirectional. I made that optional again.
Generally speaking the speed of ALS search depends on the number of ALS present in the Sudoku. In most puzzles the search should not last longer than a fiew milliseconds. Do you have a test case?
I will save the next 'slow' ALS search and send it along. I have been out of town for a week. Just catching up.
