This should now be quite possible with the refactoring of hbm2java.

Each "element" (properties, classes etc.) now have access to the hbm.xml's xml data - thus giving access to all the relavant info for XDoclet tags....

Description:
For round-tripping to work, we need the Java code generated by CodeGenerator to include XDoclet tags. This is a bit of work, but very well worth the effort.
