Specifically, this problem doesn't occur if the implementation of Interceptor.instantiate sets the identifier property of the Object it returns from the second (Serializable) parameter to instantiate.

Assuming y'all expect Interceptor.instantiate to behave this way, please document your expectation in (at least) the javadoc for Interceptor.instantiate.
