On a lot of of platforms, running DDL statements outside of autoCommit="true" is problematic.

Perhaps it should be a config option.

Description:

there are problems with .commit() calls in SchemaUpdate class

if autocommit is already set to 'true' on connection, commit() calls cause exceptions

the solution that works for me is to include commit() calls in the following condition

if (!conn.getAutoCommit()) {
  conn.commit();
}
